Figuring out CG, little help with products please!

hi! i've been stalking the board for the past week and thought you guys could answer a few questions for me.
I just started going curly this week and got the deva curl trial size of everything so these are the only products for curls that I have any exerience with.
I am wondering what products I can use that are the equivalent to the no-poo, is it just a cleansing conditioner? and if yes, which ones? Do I need to do a different conditioner after the cleansing one? I heard that low poo is better for wavy hair. Are there any types of things besides the deva curls "low-poo"? or do I just have to buy that? Thanks in advance for any help.. any gel recommendations are appreciated too!

    Welcome to CG!
I myself am a wavy, but I have found that my hair works best with a modified CG routine.

I do a loo poo every 2/3 days, some ones that work for me are : tresemme naturals or pureology

Then I follow up with a conditioner (i use the same conditioners for cowash or for conditioning, I just don't use them for the same thing on the same day. For example, if I cowash with suave, I'll do a leave in with V05): suave, v05, garnier moisture (these work best for wavies because they aren't too heavy) , scrunch my hair with the conditioner in it in the shower, rinse out, and then scrunch dry with a t-shirt.

And, this next part is practically taboo, but I VERY GENTLY comb my then with a Goody brand comb for curly hair, starting at the bottom. This prevents the unfortunate matted look, and seems to make my hair actually more curly!

Gels: A standard, cheapie gel is the Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Gel (HETT). It's CG-friendly. However, when I went CG for the first time, I used the Tresemme Tres Gel Extra Hold. I'm not even sure if they make this exact gel anymore, but I've found a lot of their gels to be similar. Except, ironically, the gel for curly hair, seems to weigh down my hair. Now, I'm not even sure if the Tresemme Gel is CG friendly, I started using it back before all these hardcore beliefs about no cones, alcohol etc; it was even recommended by Lorraine Massey on some website! It seems to work the best for me though, and I like the clean scent it has.

Be sure to coat every part of your hair with gel, and scrunch scrunch scrunch! I usually scrunch for about 5 minutes. Seems redundant, but it makes a huge difference.

As for low or no poo vs. conditioner, I have found that for wavy hair its best to use an actually sulfate free, or low sulfate shampoo.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any more questions!
Went CG x2 before, didn't work

Now trying modified CG, starting 4.9.11

Not sure what hair type, 2c/3a...hopefully a pattern will emerge soon!

Thanks for your help! i'm not sure how long to give the cg routine before trying modified version, but I'm going to keep this in mind. Which pureology do you use? thanks again!

Currently, I'm using the pureology for color treated hair since I color my hair, but I'm sure that they are all similar. They are great for going straight CG.

You've actually inspired me, I might try all out CG myself now, I feel like I'm more knowledgable about the whole thing!

    Good luck!

Hmm, it depends on how badly your hair frizzes and how dry it is. I'm a 2c/3a who colors my hair. So, I have to do the no poo because my hair needs all the moisture it can get.
    Hair type 2c/3a
    Silk pillowcase
    t shirt for drying hair
    Shampoo-DevaCurlNo Poo
Conditioner-DevaCurl One Condition and MopTop Leave-It-In Conditioner

I think most people have better luck using 2 different conditioners. People who need very little moisture can use something like VO5 as their only conditioner. People who need tons of moisture can use Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle and Rose for both. A lot of 4's do this. If you only want to use one conditioner, tresemme naturals works good as a cowash and rinse out. It is kind of in the middle for moisture.

If your hair tends to be really dry, try to avoid products with sulfate, parabens, silicone, or alcohol as much as possible.

Pureology shampoo does contain a cone-Amodimethicone. So, technically, it would be modified CG. You'd need a sulfate shampoo to remove it.

Actually the A-cone is partially water soluble and easier to remove then other cones. Ingredients in low poos can remove some cones. See this chart.

Sulfates are just the most efficient way to remove cones.
