need help with bangs/canopy

Hi,

I've had bangs for thirty (!) years. I can't figure out how to wear them now that I'm keeping my hair curly. If I straighten them (which I don't want to do) they look really stupid and don't go with the rest of my hair.
I've tried pulling back the canopy with a bobby pin or barette and letting a few curls hang on my forehead, but I can't get them to look right. My bangs don't curl well, and kind of hang in a weird way-off to one side. It looks stupid to have one curl in the middle of my forehead.

What do you do with your bangs to make them "go" with the rest of your hair?

Also, I'm trying to grow out my canopy. It's about chin length now. I wear my hair parted to the side, but when it gets windy out it looks like a mess. Any styling ideas?

Thank you!
Sherry

As much as I want to let my bangs go natural, I blow dry to soften them out with a round brush.

I don't blow out a lot of the hair, just a slight amount from the front, going across my forehead. So it's more of a wispy set of bangs rather than a thick chunk of bangs.

I do the same thing as godgivenperm. I have been wearing bangs all my life too. I tried growing them out but it looked terrible and aged me. I have tried to let them be curly and some days they do, but when I can't get them to cooperate I just dry them straight and push them to the side.

I've been wondering about bangs too! Before recently going CG, I used to blow them straight. I now realize that looked funny and unnatural with my face shape. My bangs seem to want to be corkscrew curls, but aren't long enough to make it all the way around yet. Should I let them grow and see what they do? Hmm...

Greencurls, I would continue to grow them out. That is what I would like mine to do, but they are only down below my nose, so not long enough to make it around or wind them around a curling iron.

I don't have bangs now, but looking back of my childhood pictures I laugh. I used to always end up with one big curl in the center of my forehead! I looked ridiculous! :)

it may depend upon your face shape.. i don't have bangs as such, just a few very short layers around my face, i've got myself some pretty clips and i kind of sweep it to one side so i end up with a side parting at the front and then clip it, its hard to explain but it looks pretty! I have a long face shape though so this kind of style really suits me.

HG's - Body Shop Honey shampoo & conditioner and Shea Moisture leave-in condish which gives me lovely frizz-free bouncy curls. My PJ is calling me to experiment with gels again... argh!

    Hi,

Thank you for the advice. I'll try the bit of wispy bangs pushed to one side. I can't stand having a bare forehead. It just feels strange.

Grecian Curls, I'm going to try your suggestion also. I have some pretty small sized barettes. I have an oval/long shaped faced and wear my hair parted on the side already. Thanks!

I keep the roots and top part of my hair straight so my bangs are straightened to the side but I keep them a little wavy/curled at the bottom. That way they fit in with my hair without having my whole head curly with obviously straightened bangs in the front!
