Need a little bit of help

Hello Curlies!

I've read about porous hair and I'm still not 100% sure what type is mine. If any of you could help that would be great!

First of all, I very rarely heat style my hair (including blow drying). I've only straightened my hair a handful of times, curled it about 5 times, and blow dried also a handful of times. I've only dyed my hair twice (first time = highlights, second time = entire hair).

I have a lot of 2C thick, coarse wavy hair. It takes a long time to completely dry (about a day). It has shine and is resistant to heat styling (one of the reasons why I rarely did it, really no reason since my wavy hair would be back by the end of day, or less). I'm not sure about resistant to chemicals since I've only dyed mine twice, also because I have very dark hair and already have to up my dying time. It sort of resists from getting wet but I haven't particularly paid attention to this (but now I will since I just found out). BUT my hair gets frizzy with humid/rainy days (a sign of high porosity right?)

I hope one of you what's going on with my hair!
Thanks!

I've never heard of frizz being an indicator of porosity. All curly/wavy hair has some frizz, it's the nature of the beast. Lessening frizz has to do with the right protein/moisture balance and the right styling products. My hair is definitely low porosity and it frizzes.

While heat styling and chemicals can damage hair, some folks just have porous hair. Just by the drying time, it appears as if your hair is low porosity.

I only mentioned about the frizz during humid/rainy days because on an article about porosity I read it said that if hair tends to frizz during humid days that may be a sign of high porosity.

    Here is the article: http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/curl-products/curlchemist-porosity-and-curly-hair

I don't know haha I'm too confused; the only reason I want to know is because some of my products have protein in it and if i DO have low porosity then it will just make it worse. :(

I just glanced at the article. It's not what my experience has been. My hair is fine, low porosity, LOVES, LOVES, LOVES protein and doesn't need DTs.

Fine hair and porous hair generally like/need protein. Just because your hair is low porosity, doesn't mean you need to stay away from protein. It's coarse hair that doesn't like protein. I do a PT at least once a week in the summer and 7-10 days in the winter. I use a lot of products that contain protein.

I see....I think I have coarse hair but I'm not sure anymore. It's probably more medium-coarse >_< because my hair likes protein too.

Here's a link to Marsha's blog on texture and porosity Curl Junkie - Natural Hair Care for all types of Curly Hair!: My 2 cents on Protein/Texture/Porosity/Moisture Balance! :-) She gives some visuals--which may be helpful.
