jojoba oil and flat ironing?

Hi,
I am transitioning, and don't expect to straighten my hair too much.
But in case I do, and in the case that I will probably straighten it from time to time once I am totally natural, I wanted to know if jojoba oil will protect hair from heat or not?
I keep hearing that oils are natural heat protectants, then I hear that silicones are the only way to go.
Which is true?

Mostly relaxed, yet still curly hair, which I am going to try to grow out with daily conditioner rinses and a shampoo once or twice a week.
Officially Transitioning since March 2011.

Got some kind of curly bangs going here! And I think my bangs are all natural!
I think that my natural hair is somewhere between a 3b and a 3c, I hope it's not too soon to tell! :blob4:

Oils will just cook the hair.
And yes, some naturals rant and rave about how terrible silicones are, but there really isn't any evidence to support it.
Silcone is almost like covering your hair in plastic, so as you flat iron you'll notice in increase in "smokiness." This is good because the iron is burning the silicone, not your hair! Also, silcone is great to protect against humidity on those awful days.
My advice:
Purchase sabino moisture block and a great flat iron. My favorite flat iron is babyliss pro nano- It 67 dollars on amazon.
While jojoba is GREAT natural oil, one o fthe best around, it won't do squat to keep your hair from burning from the heat.
Since this a once in a while thing, you can easily wash away the cones with a natural claryfying shampoo like Giovanni's tea tree shampoo. Good Luck!

I was using Tigi S Factor Dream Drops, but it's not at my regular Ulta and it's expensive. I'd probably stick with it. I also have a really good T3 flat iron.
I am not sure how much I will straighten once my hair is all natural, it could end up being more than once in a while.
Where do you buy Sabino?

It is possible to get a silicone free, effective heat protectant. Aveda Brilliant Damage Control does a very nice job.
I would also suggest using a ceramic flat iron with temperature control, such as this one or this one. Not using more heat than you actually need will help a great deal. If you can keep the temperature below 320 F, apparently that should keep your hair from entering the "glass transition phase" (in which the hair flows like hot glass, and the cuticle can melt). Heat protectant, obviously, should also help prevent that.

Wow, I had never heard of the glass transition phase. Interesting thanks. Unfortunately, I think during my last haircut we were a bit hotter than that,(accompanied by way too much heat protectant cause I had my stylist go crazy with it cause I was paranoid) but at home I usually did not go that hot.
I have a T3 tourmaline ceramic with the wheel that adjusts the temp.
