Hair Styling Tips, Please. [Photos Included]

in Celebs' Hair
I have coarse-ish, easily styled, 3a-ish hair. I ALWAYS wanted to know how to get my hair to look like this:

Sleek, with side sweeping action, minimum volume, and very orderly. Touchable-looking. I have tried to straighten it, curl it, etc... And I dont think I know what I'm doing, honestly.
Tips? Tricks? Wanna point me in a direction? Is there a name for this style? "Perfectly controlled wavy hair" style? haha
Thanks in advance.

I don't use a curling iron or a flat iron. I actually use just a round boar bristle brush and a blow dryer. Once the section is dry, I twirl the end of the brush for about 30 seconds and it makes those soft waves.
I don't have the exact link, but go to youtube.com and type in Chaz Dean blowout. It's the video of the model with the reddish hair. He shows how to do it, and honestly it really does work. It takes me about 35 mins to do my hair like that, so when I do it I try to milk it for as long as I can, lol.
Good luck!
Hair Type - medium to fine texture, high porosity, lots of it, type 2b/3a
Another thing I'll do is on day two curly hair, skip the flat ironing part that I described earlier, and just take chunks of hair and curl them with a curling iron. I find that smooths the hair but keeps the volume (verses flat ironing). Also much faster and not as damaging.

Thank you! I will have to try this some time.
I agree with her tho, my hair never turns out "touchable" with the blow dryer yet. It's always a poodle puff afterwords...
Ill try to practice one day soon.

You layer curt will also affect how the curls come out.
if that happens try putting a ton of your favorite hair oil and then rinsing it out in the shower...than after blowdrying touch up with some of that oil (the best i think is olive oil) makes my hair at least 50%less poofy afterwards
Co-wash: suave coconut
Rinse out:GFTN/GVP conditioning balm
Leave in: GF daily care spray leave in
Serum-like product: still need one
Gel:LA looks sport gel/ HESMU,GFPC
Oils: olive, coconut
I think I'm normal-overly porous, medium-thick hair(although I see fine hair too), love protein
22-whoissugar's shows you how to do a bangin Bantu knot out (by request) - YouTube
Now, I will say that whoissugar is...not your typical youtube vlogger, but I love her vids and I find her hilarious. Her knotout has a tighter curl, so I would suggest that you make fewer knots to achieve more of a "beachy wave". You don't get a clear picture of the way she puts in her knot, but she isn't doing a two-strand twist--she just literally twists the section of hair until it curls up on itself. Wrap the hair around itself until it forms the "knot" and secure with a bobby pin.
Also, 10 brownie points if you can acheive it without a flat iron or curling iron. I dont own a curling iron

blowdry it straight or semi-straight (warm hair, not hot), put them in really big pin curls or rollers. take it down after a couple hours and touch up the pieces with some product (i like garnier fructis curl construct spray gel, it works really well with already-styled hair that you dont wanna mess up with your fingers too much). it should give you a nice, sweepy, relaxed look with less damage than using a flat iron or curling iron.
i used to do this like twice a week last winter...i blowdried it semi straight (with warm hair) and pin curled it into curls that were probably a little tighter than you're looking for, like maybe 1" diameter? (i wrapped the hair around two fingers, but you could use three or more...) and it was very relaxed and pretty and soft. i think you could modify this technique and you'd be really really really really happy with the results.
and if you have any more questions, ask away.
