Im natural but i want to be...... natural???

:confused5:HEEEELPP My computer is a tad touched so i posted this before i think it was in the wrong thread or didnt post at all regardless i need some guidance and assistance so i am asking for all the help i can get. my hair has never been relaxed but it has been trained since i was young with the pressing comb and flat irons. i want to be completely natural but of course now when i wet my hair it tends to be straight and curly. should i go through the big chop? and if so what comes next? what do i do since im already natural? i have so many questions i feel like i am growing out a relaxer but im not lol. im going to cut it all and start from scratch. is that the best way? what do i use so my hair will grow but most importantly will be curly whatever my curl pattern may be?!!! help me plz! im chopping in 3 days... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've dealt with heat damage and I still am.
Unfortunately it sounds like you may have to BC and start all over again, avoiding heat this time.

Enough heat can actually melt the protein bonds in the hair, which is what relaxers do. If your hair won't revert back to it's natural state, it has been heat damaged. It is completely up to you if you want to big chop or not.
How long has it been since you stopped heat styling? If you adopt a healthy hair regimen, over time your curl pattern will improve as much as it's capable given the heat damage...which might be little.
Whatever you decide to do, send the flat irons etc on vacation and follow a good hair care routine. Look for hair cleansers without sulfates and harsh surfactants. Educate yourself on hair ingredients and healthy hair care so you can adapt things to suit your hair and be a smart consumer.
For me, the Live Curly Live Free site has been helpful with information on how to care for my hair. The curly articles here are also very helpful and so are the members.
Above all, be patient. The good hair days will come.
