Kinky Curly Curling Custard & Knot Today

Ok so the PJ in me led me to Ricky's and I bought the KCCC and KCKT on a whim. I usually read reviews for days before giving in and buying a product but not this time. I think I might have made a mistake ladies either I'm slow and can't get this to work for me or this just doesn't like my hair. The KT is awesome in making my curls pop but the KCCC is a hot mess on my hair. After application of the custard my hair become hard and dry. What am I doing wrong? I've tried the product at least three times and I've added a lot to a little and still hard. How do you ladies apply it?

KKCC can be very tricky. For me it almost always dries hard. Most times after scrunching out the crunch it is soft. Also, I don't find Knot Today to be moisturizing so typically I use another leave it. When done right it is super soft and moisturized.

it also depends on the weather for me. In the spring and summer , no issues at all with softness. in the winter i have to sotc

@Danyele Yes, my hair was soaking wet when I applied the KT and KCCC.

@Cora What do you recommend to use under the KCCC? I mean I've seen reviews about how it's supposed to be soft and moisturizing and I'm looking in the mirror like ummm I took a left when I should have went right.

@Shawnyblazes I was hoping that wasn't the case.

I'm also on a quest for a curl definer. I tried eco styler and it made my hair hard, brittle and dry (it took my hair 2 days to recover). I tried KT but it's not thick enough for my hair (I was very disappointed). I might try Beautiful Curls curl defining gel over KCCC.

To be honest, it's probably the Knot Today that is making the Custard dry that crunchy - if I use KT with the CC, the result is shrunken, still, borderline dry curls, and I do not even get this result if I use the CC ALONE. When I use it with Oyin Honey Hemp, my hair has hold but it's soft, and I don't have nearly as much shrinkage. KT doesn't have enough moisture for me.

The few times I've used KCCC it dries hard I prefer the curl junkie aloe fix or donna marie curling gelly when I'm in the mood for a wash and go. KT offers my hair zero moisture as a leave in. The curl junkie smoothing lotion is a good leave in as well as Darcy's leave in conditioner. Abba pure and gentle is a great one too Amazon.com: Abba Pure Gentle Conditioner 6.76 oz.: Beauty not the alba which I found drying. HTH

i feel this way too. KCKT isn't moisturizing enough for my hair, so if i were to use KCCC i'd have tou se a heavy creamy leave in underneath it. i also don't use very much KCCC because it does leave my hair hard and flat. i prefer KC spiral spritz for a soft hold.

    I agree.
i used to use tressame naturals condish and leave that in then put coconut oil on top of that then the kccc that worked really good. now i do the kimmaytube leave in, i put coconut oil on top of that ( i know i dont need to but i do) then the kccc that makes soft curls.

kckt on its own dried my hair out. it didnt really moisturize at all. mixed up with the aloe vera juice, castor and jojoba oils it does wonders on its own not so much.

See, I thought you couldn't use KCCC with oils, so I've only ever used it with KT. I thought you got balls from using it with oils. I love the definition I get from KCCC, but definitely get crunch. Something else to try I guess!

I was just about to come here and ask a similar question. I've found that the KCCC makes my hair shrink and it gets hard. But no matter how many other products I use, nothing actually gets in my hair without turning it white and sitting on top of it and defines and takes frizz out as well as KCCC has. I recently tried putting stuff over it instead of on before it, most recently Donna Marie Dream Curling Creme cause that alone doesn't do what KCCC does for me. I'm one of the rare ones that finds that KT actually works well for. Any other leave in that's creamy just kinda sits on my hair and I see a product build up when I am trying to style. I might have to try some of your suggestions on how to use KCCC with other stuff.

I decided this weekend that KCCC and I just don't mix. The KCKT alone it is not moisturising enough for me. However, when I mix aloe juice and some oils in to the KCKT, a la Kimmaytube, the moisture is much better but I get the white balls, and have to diffuse to get rid of them. Granted, it actually doesn't leave my hair crunchy, but causes ridiculous shrinkage, is NEVER completely dry by bedtime, feels like glue, and I never EVER get second day hair (I have managed to get 5 day hair with ecostyler!). I think I just need to give up on this product!
    Products in current rotation:

Terressentials Pure Earth Mud Wash; Elucence MBC (now really just for cowashing, leg shaving or emergencies); Curl Junkie: Repair Me, Deep Fix, Curl Rehab; AOHSR (retiring); Oyin Handmade: Honey Hemp, Hair Dew, J&B; Qhemet Biologics: BRBC (retiring- prefer Oyin HD), AOHC, OHHB; Jojoba Oil for scalp; Castor Oil or Shea butter to seal; Henna & Ayurvedic pastes when I can be bothered.

Still searching for the perfect stylers, but loving CJ CIAB over everything so far

KCKT is a good curl definer and detangler (from what I hear), but for me it doesn't do much as far as a leave-in conditioner. I only use a little bit of the KCKT for definition, but I get more from Cantu as a leave-in, and then add a little Shea Moisture for more curl definition (my hair fights with me about curls and moisture, and this works for me). Eco Styler is a tricky one, it's all about how little and how much you use (I have to use only a little on the crown and in the back, a little more on the sides).

I've found that KCKT works best for me as a refresher on dry hair in place of a "spritiz". I apply it to dry hair in the morning (mostly the last 2/3 of my hair) to clam the frizzes and bed head.

I finally tried the "kimmaytube" mix with the KCKT and it was "meh"...it moisturized for about 2 days but by day three my hair was dry and no amount of moisturizing and sealing was gonna help it. I might revisit in the summer time when I wash every 2-3 days but in the winter it was a no go.

I like Shikai Everyday Conditioner under kccc plus it almost has no scent (I get it at the Vitamin Shoppe or my health food store). Also Curl Junkie Coffee Coco Curl Creme and Hibiscus Banana Honey Butta work great. I only use kccc in spring, summer & early fall. When it warms up a little more, I'm gonna try my CJ Smoothing Lotion and Alba Botanica Leave-in under it to see how they work. I've never tried Knot Today.

Could you tell me the ingredients of the shikai conditioner? I can't seem to find it online. Thanks!

When I use KCCC and the KCKT, I usually leave some of my rinse out in (Tresemme Naturals), then I'll put the KCKT in, then layer some castor oil over it or jojoba oil, and then use the KCCC. No crunch and my hair looks and feels moisturized.

I use a lot of oil in my leave-ins so I think that helps make KCCC less crunchy for me. The percentage I use of KT and oil is around 60/40 and sometimes 50/50.

I agree that KT alone is not moisturizing but I pretty much have to doctor all of my conditioners because they are not slippery enough. The only exception is Curl Junkie BeautiCurls Daily condish (which is like pre-mixed KT for me) but that is being discontinued.

I also apply KCCC with a light hand and on soaking wet hair. It dries softer and with less glops of gel in places for me. Some found they liked it better on damp to almost dry hair though.

I love KCCC, but I hate KCKT! I had been using CC with a different leave in and castor oil to seal--perfect! Well, I put the leave-in conditioner in, seal with castor oil, then rake the KCCC through my hair. After a couple of years I decided to try the KT just to see if I got even better results (I was bored, too)--EPIC FAIL ! My hair was super dry, and I tried it three times to make sure that I wasn't going crazy.

I don't like KT. The bottle is sitting on my dresser collecting dust!

I love KCKT as a leave-in. KCCC doesn't have enough hold for my twists. KCKT + Giovanni LA Natural Gel = awesome twist-outs for me.

I'm not feeling the KT either. I've also found that castor oil on top of my leave in works perfect with KCCC. My hair hates wash-n-go's now but I use it for my twist outs.

I wasn't feeling my KT until I put some EVOO in there. Feeling it! However, I wouldn't buy it again because of that fact I have to be a mad scientist with it. So for those who aren't using it, throw in some oil.

Its winter time here in Michigan. KCKT as a LI, with Biotera gel on top, made my hair too soft. It drove me crazy all day at work I had to put it up into a ponytail. Maybe with more humidity it will work in the summer. I will put it away until then.
