Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse

For the first time today I did a ACV rinse on my hair. I heard that it helps with buildup, shine and restores PH to the scalp. I used 2 tbs. of ACV and 2 cups of water. I left it on my hair for about 5 minutes and then rinsed.

I still have buildup and now my scalp itches. Does it take more than once to get all the buildup out? Am I doing something wrong? Could it not be buildup but something else?

Thanks!

I use a different dilution of ACV to water and it works well for me. I use 1/3 c. ACV to 1 quart of water. My hair is thin, but almost BSL when wet. I don't mind having a little solution left over if that happens. I get shiny, bouncy, nicely formed curls after I use this mixture and it seems to take care of the little build-up I might get. I only do ACV rinses a few times per year.

I went CG about 2 months ago. I've been trying everything to get the buildup from years of using sulfates and products out of my hair. I've tried baking soda and ACV. Should I just try more ACV and less water next time? Any other suggestions as to a natural way to get rid of the buildup?

There are several things that can build up in your hair.

Was your last wash a sulfate wash? Sulfates do not cause build up, they remove it. You need to do a sulfate wash last, in order to get rid of any silicone residue in your hair, baking soda and ACV will not do this.

ACV will not remove build up just on it's own, unless it's build up from oils.

Do you know how hard your water is? Hard water can build up as well. Getting a water filter may solve it. BS wash and ACV after will remove build up from hard water.

I don't use silicone products so ACV gets rid of whatever other type of build-up I have.

I did a sulfate clarifying wash right before I went CG and I don't use sulfates or cones now. Not sure how hard our water is. Someone told me that a Malibu treatment may work to get the buildup out. Not sure.
