15 days without a Coca cola....

SystemSystem Posts: 39,059 Administrator
I still really, really want one. I went for years without drinking them and started drinking one occasionally and then everyday and two aday and so on. I'm rebreaking the habit and trying to dry more water. blllleeeccckkkk! oh well.

That's about the only New Year's resolution I've made and I intend to keep it.

How about you?

Hmm....about the same. I'm trying to cut out sodas this year cause they are messing up my teeth. It's actually achievable. I think I can do it because there is no Pepsi here.....woe be onto me when I get home though.
I ain't thirsty. There's plenty of fish in the sea, but I don't want all of them, can I have some standards? Or do we just have to settle, for someone's who meh and will do.

Oh my gosh, I feel your pain. It's not a resolution, but I can't drink sodas anymore. My neurologist put me on topamax to prevent migraines and it makes anything carbonated taste terrible. I've been on the topamax since before Christmas and I STILL crave them. I had an upset stomach a few days ago and I did drink a little bit of sprite to calm my stomach despite the taste. I'm still in mourning. I really miss my coca-cola. And now my doctor wants me to not drink coffee....he says it can cause rebound headaches. No way am I giving that up too. I only drink one cup a day...I'm sorry, but you can't give up everything!!!! I enjoy my early morning time to myself with my cup of coffee.

Hey, I haven't had a soda since high school, so it's certainly doable. :)

kayb, they have weird soda in Japan, right? We saw some with a strange jellied grass in it while visiting San Fran.

Speckla, just cut that isht out. It's awful for you. Just sugar and bubbles, and no crunch!

    You can make it.

I had an ex BIL who was addicted to Pepsi. He would drink one instead of coffee in the morning. Good for you!

They do have the jellied kind that I made the mistake of buying once. 1.1211469660.can-of-fanta-jelly.jpg

    Never again.

These also have Melon Soda (which is awesomeness in a can) which tastes like bubble gun.

They apparently do a lot of market testing here so the flavours can get really strange.

Like last year they had sweet red bean Pespi......:laughing5:

I feel your pain, Speckla. Had to give up Coke and/or Pepsi and it bit the big one. Actually, I had to give up all caffeine. It's been about 6 weeks for me and there are days I just would really like a can of Coke or Pepsi. I think it's more about the fizz factor than the taste, but every once in a while, the craving for the flavor overwhelms...it does get better, though. For the most part, I'm not supposed to have soda at all, but can still have caffeine free soda every now and again, so I can get the fizz fix if I need it (but no caffeine free cola for some reason...doesn't make sense to me, but who am I to question doctors?). The problem that I have is sometimes I just really hate the taste of water. I know, I'm a freak.

Hang in there...you can do it! I finally broke down and went and bought a couple Camelbak bottles to drink from because I wouldn't drink enough water otherwise. I wouldn't drink enough from regular mugs or water bottles or cups or glasses. It was my compromise. Buy soda or purchase the bottles. It paid for itself quickly.

Sunshine, you could have caffeine-free iced tea, right? Or other non-carbonated drinks, if you don't like water?
  • ninja dogninja dog Posts: 23,780Registered Users
    Sweet red bean Pepsi?

I think there should be a book and a movie about the weird food and drink of Japan.

Mmmm...it's kinda complicated. Yeah, I can have herbal iced tea and fruit juices (except orange juice, pomegranate juice and a few others that are rare), so that helps to break the monotony. I have to avoid artificial sweeteners, though, so my arsenal of Crystal Light that I used to use is useless. All I have to say is thank goodness I like fruit juices like cranberry, grape and apple. I dilute them down to about 25%, so it's not as strong, more like a hint of flavor and it helps get me past the water flavor.

Congrats speckla and everyone and keep on keepin on.

I've kept all of my resolutions so far.
Sticking to a very strict diet from Jan 1 - the end of February (no Coke or pop of any kind, no booze, no sugar, no white carbs, no processed food). Then slowly add things back in that I really love and need, but keep it within bounds. I won't be giving up Coke forever. I don't think it's as evil as it's made out to be. Just need to do things in moderation.

Not letting my boss get to me so much. I'm not his mother. If he wants to be an illogical idiot, waste mucho time, have no manners - not my problem. I haven't yelled at him once so far this year!
Not let my parents get to me so much. You want to eat your selves to death, sit around and do nothing, be miserable - have at it. I won't let it infect me. I haven't yelled at them once as they try to shove their unhealthy food in my face that they know I won't eat.
    And I feel great!!!

ps sunshinegrrl -- have you tried adding flavored stevia drops to your water? I like water but I like it even more with a little flavor. Orange and lemon are my favorites, but vanilla and rootbeer flavors make it seem almost like pop. It's natural, no calories no carbs no sodium no caffeine. Good stuff.

I can't give up my cokes completely (or maybe I just don't want to). I had my wisdom teeth out a couple of weeks ago and couldn't have any carbonated beverages for a week, so I used that as a springboard to cut WAAAAAY back on my soda intake. I've done pretty good so far to have just one or less than a full one a day. I was pretty much chain drinking them before.

For me, drinking too much coke is my only really bad, unhealthy habit and for me...I gotta live a little, so I'm just cutting way back instead of cutting them out completely. :thumbright:

Great Job! I have been thinking about cutting the habit myself. I have to have one every morning. If I don't, I feel sluggish. I hate that I have to depend on it everyday.

Shut. Up. They have flavored Stevia drops?! I know I can have stevia, but didn't relish just having sweet water. Will have to look into the flavored stevia drops now. Thanks for the heads up! That is heartening!

    Great Job!

My goal this year is to just get back into the habit of working out. So far...so good.

As for cokes...I've really worked hard to cut them out as a daily thing. Usually it's a treat on the weekend. Every once in awile I have one during the week.

Usually I have food that triggers the craving for a crisp, cold coca-cola....it's buttered popcorn, chips and salsa (basically mexican food), cookies. mmmmm...

that's a great decision. i read an article recently that people who consume 2 or more sodas a day have a much higher incidence of pancreatic cancer.

you should try lemonade crystal light with a few drops of orange blossom water. it's a nice little twist.
