Any of you texas girls been to Anthony? I went years ago, but my hair was alot shorter, and I had a chemical relaxer on it, so I don't really know what result my hair will have this go around, all natural and long. I remember him being super nice, but not much more than that. Other than it being hard to get anything great out of my hair since it was half natural and half chemical....

Anyone have any experience here?

I had a good experience with him... like you said, very nice and the cut was a decent price if I remember correctly (around $45 maybe?). He seemed super knowledgeable about curly hair, and was very pro "no poo" and understood about not using cones, etc.

All that being said, after he cut my hair dry I really couldn't tell a difference in my cut. Maybe that just means I had a good cut before? I dunno. My hair looked fine, but I just felt like there were some bits that didn't get cut and had some deader ends as a result... that's not so much Anthony's fault as it is a by product of the dry cut though.

ETA: where abouts are you at? Somehow I didn't realize you were a N. Texas curly :P

Yes, his price is very good. I think it's closer to $50 now, but I've spent upwards of $80 before for a crappy wet cut.

I live in Grapevine, work in Fort Worth, go to school in Hurst, so I'm all over the place. :)
Do you know of anyone better in the area?

There's a guy at the Toni and Guy in Lewisville that gave me a good cut, though it wasn't a dry/curly cut... Nynaeve reccomended him, I THINK his name is Brian...

if you're wanting a curly cut though, I think I'd stick with Anthony... he's the best I've gotten and he's MUCH cheaper than any other alternative

(I'm in Grapevine too! Work in Plano though)

Yea, I know a girl here close to us that does a great regular cut she's really pricey, but I was wanting to try out the curly cut again, so I guess I'll stick with Anthony. :)

Wow, we're next door neighbors! Who knew! :)

Got Anthony to cut my hair this morning....It looks really good. I think he's had a lot more practice since the last time I saw him about 5 years ago. The cut looks great, and he styled it awesomely!
For the FIRST TIME in my entire life, I walked out of the salon with my hair curly and didn't immediately pull it back in a pony tail because of how bad it looked.

that was at 8:45 this am, after shopping out in the wind, hitting golf balls, AND taking a nap...and my hair still looks good 10 hours later. :)

....me piggybacking on this post. I have a first-time appt with Anthony in 2 weeks (I was told it costs $63). Can anyone tell me what his cutting style is? Does he cut off part of the curl or all of it? I've heard it's better to cut of all of it off. This is an excerpt from Live Curly Live Free:

"When it comes to actual cutting technique, I am a supporter of the curly cutting methodology in which entire curls are removed in an appropriate pattern to remove bulk and create shape depending on the client's hair texture and wave pattern. I have a fundamental issue with other methodologies that only slice or notch into a curl part of the way to remove bulk rather than take the curl off in its entirety. I believe when curly hair is cut this way, it looks good initially, but as it grows out, little "twigs" begin to sprout as the two different lengths of the curl begin to separate."

I don't mind at all...I got the cut and two styling products (I think they were $17 each) and I spent a little over $100. So $63 is probably about right.

As far as cutting all of the curl off or not...I'm not sure. He cut my hair dry...and told me what he wanted to do to it, (as far as cutting some length off that he thougth looked too thin) and then asked me if I wanted to do that, or if I just wanted to cut a teeny amount off... He was very understanding about what I wanted and what I was worried about. In the end I trusted him and let him cut whatever he wanted...and all I can say is, I don't think my curls have every looked this good in my entire life. I know it's partially my routine but this cut has made a HUGE difference.

I will definitely go back. I don't think you'll be sorry. You can also contact him and ask him if you are that concerned about the method he uses...he's very friendly and helpful. He told me to call any time I wanted if i had a question or needed help.
