I think you should examine your routine to figure out why your hair is breaking before you can correct the problem. Dye? Overmanipulation? Dry combing? Too much or not enough moisture? Too much or not enough protein? Excessive heat? The list goes on..

I had to do a protein treatment last night because my hair was getting a little mushy. Hair has a way of telling you what it needs if you know what to look for.
Yes, it's real. No, you can't touch it. :wav:

Is it breakage or normal shedding? You're saying "sometimes" and "one or two". It sounds normal to me. According to most articles 50-100 hairs is shed every day.

I lose enough hair to fill up my drain every time I wash. I'm not bald-headed yet.

Your hair is going to break, even if you are natural. Hair goes through a lot of wear and tear, and 1-2 broken strands are normal, especially if it's when you're combing your hair. It becomes an issue when you are getting excessive breakage and it is noticeably affecting your retention.

YES to the bolded. I only wash/manipulate my hair once a week, so those "50-100 strands a day" all come out at once.

NaturallyBriaful, how often do you comb/wash your hair? Are you sure these are "broken off" hairs or do they have a bulb (white part) at the end? If you see the latter, then those are normal ol' shed hairs. Short broken off pieces could be due to a lot of things that the other ladies mentioned. As far as the knots....well, they're part of being a 4A. Some ladies have 'em more than others. Properly moisturizing and handling your hair can reduce them but almost all of us have had them at some point.

OP, I think you shouldn't worry about it.

Like elle said, hair is going to break.

Unless you are seeing hairs all over your clothes and sink, I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm was dealing with the same issue. I can identify which hairs are shed because their long and have a small white tip at the root. I also have breakage and I know thats from the knots.

You need to look at how you're wearing your hair/manipulating it. I had to let the wash n go's GO because it was causing more tangles which causes knots and the stand is weakened at the knots and it breaks. Also, not detangling caused my shed hairs to create knots with the good hairs.

I now try to keep my hair stretched and always seal your ends after you moisturize. Examine your hair to see if its dry or mushy. If its dry and breaking you need to deep condition with a moisturizing treatment. If its mushy and feels week you may be due for some protein. Listen to your hair and she will tell you what she needs.

I use the ApHogee Green Tea Reconstructor spray on my natural hair, when it's in twists. I alternate with my regular spray moisturizer/leave-in, to keep a good balance of protein/moisture. BUT, my hair loves protein.

I am losing like 150-170 hairs a day lately, and I was doing so well before. I did change conditioners/cowash and I think that might have something to do with it. But my old conditioner had [-cones in it. So to go back to that, no way. But now I have to find something that doesn't make me shed. I do wash my hair daily cuz \i go to the gym, but not shampoo, I vary between co-wash, water rinse, and low-poo, but how do you wash all the sweat/product off daily without doing manipulation?? I really do think that manipulation is part of my problem and many of you only manipulate/wash your hair once a week, twice, and I do it daily. How can I clean without manipulating, or can someone explain me a better/less irritating way to manipulate?? I don't think it's Only that because I also shed hairs during the dya, one falls out here, I run my hand through my hair, 2 more come out. And that's how I get that high number, with what comes out in the shower. :color:
