Having a hair crisis, thought I was 3b think I'm 3a

One thing I've noticed is that many of you have the less curly at top which is my hair. But I think my hair is medium thickness by strand. I think its porous and its very frizzy right now.

I've been a 3b but I think with some hormonal changes, its loosening but its sooooooo dry.

Please tell me what you do to moisture your hair, what products are popular with 3a? How do you control frizz. I don't use sulfates or silicone products. I do color-I'm graying.:?

Ever since I had my son ~10 years ago, I have some random very loose curls. I've been thinking about a ceramic iron just to touch up those. Anyone else have that?

    I swear by the Curl Junkie products; her stuff is so moisturizing! The more I've used her conditioners, deep condition from time to time, use her CCCC-lite and CIAB products to encourage the curl, and air-dried my hair, the less frizzy my hair has become--and it's changed from 3a to 3b! I thi8nk the name of the game is to keep your hair in great condition, trim the ends if/when you need them...btw, I also color my hair, do a DT a few days after I color to make sure the ends don't get dry.

    I'm not Sharon, but can give you an answer. Most of the abbreviations can be found in a sticky at the top of this forum called "acronyms."

    LI=Leave In
    CJ=Curl Junkie
    KBB=Karen's Body Beautiful
    CIAB=Curl Junkie Curls in a Bottle
    AOMM=Aubrey Organic's Mandarin Magic
    HESMU=Herbal Essences Set Me Up Gel
    AVG=Aloe Vera Gel

    HTH. You'll find infinite information on most of this products if you do a search.

    anything with cj is a curl junkie product. you can look them up here or on the curl junkie website.
    i agree with sharon about keeping your hair healthy. that may be why you are losing some curl --your hair needs moisture. i would do a deep treatment and use a heavy leave in for winter. (i use dt conditioners as leave in during the winter.) also, maybe a protein treatment. cj has a great one.

    i don't generally use anything for hold in winter.
    most days now in the winter i just have a very heavy leave in (usually ss dt) and nothing else.
    some days i might use deva set it free, cj curl queen, i might add cj beauticurls leave in.... cj smoothing gellie... a tiny bit of jane carter nourish and shine.... whatever is in my stash that i feel might do what i THINK my hair might need.
    the key i think is if your hair is well moisturized the curl retains itself pretty much. i also like a softer style, even run my hands through my hair throughout the day, so soft and curly is great for me.

    you have to play around and find out what works for your hair in different dewpoints.
    start with a deep treatment and go from there.

    everything i use is in my signature. cj products are varied, too many to list.
    for deep conditioning now i use spiral solutions deeply decadent treatment -- love the way it transforms my hair.

    there are many dts out there, it depends on your hair and what works for you.
    you can do a product search for conditioners/treatments and put in say, 4 stars, to see what people here pick.

    if your hair is dry as you wrote in the first post, then you might not be doing enough conditioning. i don't know where you live, but if the dew points drop in winter where you live, and the inside heat is drying, you need heavier conditioners as leave ins, and to do a deep conditioning more often, once a week for sure if your hair is dry.
    and, maybe try a protein treatment before the deep conditioning.
