Desert Essences Shampoo/Conditioner: Green Apple & Ginger, and Coconut

sleepyjesssleepyjess Posts: 297Registered Users
So, after reading a bunch of reviews raving about these two products from Desert Essences, I decided to splurge and buy the shampoo and conditioner set of the Volumizing Green Apple & Ginger, and the Moisturizing Coconut.
(These don't have sulfates or silicones in them, btw.)

First, I tried the Apple one. It worked all right for the first two or three weeks, but it eventually started drying out my hair pretty bad, though my hair sort of has a tendency to get dry. It really added volume, however, and I got decent second day hair. The scent is crazy strong, so you'd better be apples' #1 fan or something before you purchase.

The Coconut is something I have only just used tonight, but it seems to do well on my hair so far. My hair dried soft, and there were less flyaways than when I used the Apple stuff. It doesn't seem to weight down my hair really - I mean, my hair has less volume than when I used the Volumizing Apple shampoo/conditioner, but I don't think it'll go flat. I'll post about second day hair if there is a change...
Also, the Coconut stuff smells more like pina colada than straight up coconut, just a heads up.

Both cost about $7 at any natural foods store, but you can find it cheaper online, I think.

I feel like I glossed over a bunch of information. That's what I get for writing reviews at midnight while watching Bones and shoving all the popcorn in the world into my mouth.

Hahahaa. I am glad you posted this because I have been very eager to try the coconut shampoo. The ingredients look great and I love all coconut smells. I am running low on daily fix and I think I'll give this a try next (although I do really like DF). How is the lather? Do you feel you need to use a lot or does a little go a long way?

There is a TON of lather with the coconut shampoo! I haven't experienced as much lather with any of my other products since switching to low poos in 2009. I notice that my hair is a little squeaky after cleansing with this shampoo, but it doesn't feel stripped.

    Ditto on the coconut poo.

I love the coconut condish. You don't need a lot and the strong pina colada smell is great.

But the green apple - Uuugh! It smells nasty and it did nothing for my hair. Not enough moisture for me.

I definitely agree with what you guys said about it lathering well, and leaving hair squeaky but not stripped. Gave some shine as well as softness to my hair, but my hair was going through an absurdly dull and dry phase so maybe this just returned it to the status quo...either way, I would recommend it.

Also a little does seem to go a long way, but then again, I have short-ish hair so I don't use all that much to begin with.
