Protein-free hard hold gels?

nandiknitsnandiknits Registered Users Posts: 260
For a long time I have been searching for a good protein free gel that has a hard hold. I'm currently using HESMU, which is the only thing I've been able to find. I don't really like it, as with ongoing use I find it drying. Can any of you coarse, protein-sensitive CG's please suggest other options?

I live in Canada and can't get many of the products available in the US. I use KCCC, but need a hard hold gel on top.

Loving AOHR, Biolage Conditioning Balm, KCCC.:glasses8:

A few protein-free hard-hold products I have been considering (not tried, recommended on forum) in my quest for winter hold (low humectant or just need a little because the hold is so strong):

Sally's GVP Extra-Volume Sculpting Gel, Compare to: Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Sculpting Gel

    MOP C-Curl Curl Defining Cream

Search the forum for "hard hold" - a few good threads here

Thanks for the Mop C suggestion. I will check and see if they have it at Honey Fig. In Canada, we don't have the GVP products and Sally's in the US don't deliver to Canada, but I can look at the Paul Mitchell. Thanks again!

You are welcome! I am new to the forum and it is kind of exiting to get a reply so soon!

I decided to get BRHG this winter (it has protein) because so little is needed that I'm sure the humectant in it won't bother me - and I can try it today. The Mop-C is tempting, still might get it if I make a nc order.

There are other hard hold gels liked on the forum (worth searching "hard hold" - title only), but I only bookmarked those with little humectant.

I'd like to hear how you like what you end up with.

Anyone have protein-free curl cream suggestions? I figured I'd bump the thread, since I would have started one similar to it!

^^I don't really do creams anymore but I do like protein free jelly products!

A few off the top of my head:
    -Jessicurl RR
    -KCCC
    -CJ Aloe Fix Lite
    -Uncle Funky Daughter's Curly Magic
    -Donna Marie Miracurl Curling Gelly

Most of these have glycerin so if you're glycerin sensitive you should def check the labels!
Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves
cleanser: Redken Fresh Curls Shampoo, CJ Daily Fix

rinse out: GVP Conditioning Balm, CJ Beauticurls, CJ Smoothing

    jellies/creams: CR Curl Maker, KCCC
gels: CJ CQ, CJ Pattern Pusha, BRHG

    Herbal Essences Set Me Up
La bella lots of curls (pink kind!)
    KCCC
    Afroveda PUR Whipped Gelly (winner!!!)

Are the only gels I've ever used. All responded beautifully to my protein sensitive hair. I dunno what would be considered a hard hold gel though.

I'm having rare 2nd day hair with Got2B Spiked-Up Max Control Gel. I don't like using it by itself, I'd rather mix it with a light gel. Yesterday I mixed it with
Beautiful Curls Shea Butter Curl Defining Gel which I stupidly thought was protein-free. But even though my hair's a bit dry I'm not gonna complain about 2nd day waves...

Thanks, guys! Actually, AmberBrown, the pink La Bella Lots of Curls gel does have protein. It has Keratin Amino Acids fairly high on the list. This made me sad, since I like this gel besides it having protein in it. I'm looking to rotate that and the LALSG with something protein-free. Evil Keratin Amino Acids!
