I know this is a little early, but maybe some of us could get together and go to the Taste together.

I've never been to the Taste, in all my 34 years. I went to the Wolves game last night when they on the Calder Cup. It was awesome! Chicago has another championship team!!

The wolves? Is that hockey? I thought we had the Blackhawks.

We've got both. The Wolves play at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont. They are kinda like the farm league for the Atlanta Thrashers. The hockey is great and the prices beat the Hawks for affordability.

But I digress. How do we put together a get together?

Okay, the Taste this year goes from June 28 thru July 7. The weekends fall on June 29&30 and July 6&7. The site for more details is:
    /home/leaving?target=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cityofchicago.org%2Fspecialevents%2FFestivals%2FTaste2002%2F" class="Popup

As of now, I think I can attend any of those weekend days above. Anyone else?

I absolutly dread the thought of meeting at the taste. It is too crowded and it will be extremely hard to meet up with people especially with all the FT's in town.

Do we want to talk and swap tips and stuff or are we just going to look at each other and bolt? Wouldn't a meeting at a restuarant or mall type setting work better?

What about Nordstrom's on Michigan Ave? They have a great Cafe. The food is awesome. And we could talk.

I like the idea of getting together so we can talk and get to know each other. What areas of Chicago are you all at, and maybe we can figure out a point in the middle to meet. I am north, by Great America.
Downtown would be nice, because we could do more.

I am in Evanston, which is MUCH closer to downtown than that near-wisconsin-border where it seems everyone else is. (but don't let that stop a get together. If meeting up north would work out better, I'll commute icon_smile.gif )

L'n-z, we could go out there or anywhere. When? I'll be out of town in the end of June.

If the weekends of the Taste are no good (because of the holidays and whatnot), we could always go to Dave and Busters, or the Hard Rock Cafe, or to Navy Pier. I don't work at all on the weekends, and I'm not going on vacation anytime soon ( icon_sad.gif ), so all my weekends should be free.

or, I'm definately a beach bunny, so this might be a stretch, but if anyone wants to head out and just enjoy the sun, I'm up for that too. icon_biggrin.gif

I'm up by Great America also, actually closer to Wis, but I wouldn't mind coming into the city as long as we can meet somewhere that's accessible by public transportation. I absolutely DREAD driving into the city.

Well Downtown is always nice becauese you can generally find everything!

If anyone in the Gurnee/Waukegan/Sticks Area would like to carpool let me know. I am always up for driving DT.
  • CynaminbearCynaminbear Posts: 4,476Registered Users
OK, Curlypuddin, Nappybychoice and I can carpool, so let's pick a place, day, time and go down town. I've never been to Dave and Busters, or Norsdtroms. Just today I was thinking the beach would be great now that it's getting so hot. If we go to North Street Beach we could park at the Lincoln Park Zoo.

Oh, Lincoln Park Zoo!! I love it. And it's free, too! I'm not saying that I'm in the mood for smelling monkey ish, but maybe we can find something creative for us to do.

And I have a ton of products that I'm not using anymore that I can bring in case anyone is interested. icon_smile.gif

I'm supposed to be going out of town during that time!! Darn....maybe the next gathering? We just moved here, and I really hope to get down to Chicago soon and see some sights. I'd love to take my little boy to the Zoo!! Keep us posted on the plans. I'm just right over in Grayslake! icon_smile.gif

    What weekend are we talking?

I think I have to work at a client the last weekend of the month, but other than that I can spare a few hours on any weekend. Except Sunday afternoons. I have class.
  • CynaminbearCynaminbear Posts: 4,476Registered Users
SuziQ, you haven't missed anything yet because we haven't picked a date. Well, lets pick a Saturday, say in July or August, then go from there. I am free every Saturday in July and a few in August. Anyone else have a much more specific schedule or date?

The idea for going to the Taste was great, but I'm not very interested in going. The prices are a bit high, the days way too hot for me, and I don't like standing in line or wading through thousands of people.

I won't be here in August, b/c I'm leaving to go back to school.

edited to say: If we decide on a restaurant, is there anyone who has a strict diet they follow? Vegetarians, or anything of that sort? That will help us narrow down a place.

I love the idea of meeting at Nordtrom on Michigan Ave. The Cafe there has a lot of choices and should be able to accomidate even the pickiest of eaters!

I'd prefer a lunch because I'll be taking the el, and would rather not be on it (by myself atleast) late at night. icon_smile.gif

OK, Nordstrom's, in July. What's a good Saturday? Lunch or dinner?

I don't know what everyone else's schedule is like, but the best Saturdays in July for me are the 6, 20, 27.

Jennifer: They have Vegan dishes I think. You should be able to find something. they have salads. You should call ahead. Call the Concierge and they can help you. Nordstroms is EXTREMELY helpful icon_smile.gif

I like the Saturday of July 20th. How does 2PM sound? We sleep late on the weekends...

i'm vegan, but as long as the restuarant serves diet coke, i'll be ok. icon_smile.gif but thanks for the consideration of people who have different diets, that was awesome.

July 20 at 2:00 pm at Nordstroms

I can make it. Anyone from Lake County or southern Wisconsin can carpool with me. I can seat 7 in my minivan. Just check my profile up above and email me.
