Switching salons and getting another Deva cut tomorrow by someone new!UPDATED w/ PIC!

The stylist who has been doing my Deva cuts is fabulous but the salon is gross (I know I am a germaphobe, but it is really not clean) and in a very bad part of town. I have gone there and have even been as bold to ask why, with her certification, is she not at a higher end salon in a better part of town.
It is in an old home, is frankly not kept up at all and I am always approched by people asking me for money as I walk down the street to get there (no parking nearby-and of course, I always give them money). I am really a suburban girl but this is near where I work and I knew that she was certified in Deva cutting.

Learned of another place closer to my house than to work and the stylist has been cutting curly hair for 20 years and her training was done in NY, under Lorraine versus classes here by certified instructors.

It will be interesting to see about shape. My girl did not want to take out any bulk/change shape or add many layers. She kept it the same shape as when it was straight and it just seems heavy.

RACER-I plan to print out a pic of your beautiful cut and ask her about your shape even though I know that you have infinitely more curl than me.

I'll let you know how it goes and try to post pics!

I am BACK!! My hair feels 5 lbs. lighter and I have VOLUME! She was fabulous! Cannot wait to style it myself but I can already tell that I will love it!

I hope you love it! Looking forward to pictures.

I will be needing a touch up to my color and a trim in a few weeks. I was planning on trying a Deva stylist not far from here, but then someone posted on the stylist forum about her stylist who is not Deva trained, but cuts hair dry. She has been going to her for many years and really likes her. It's farther away, but now I'm torn. Maybe I'll just toss a coin!

Racer says her hair is Very Thick - I think it would have to be super thick to have that much layering and still a nice edge at the bottom. I don't think most people could get that same short-to-long layering because we'd not have enough hair!

Robin-true! My hair is fine but not at all thin. I have LOTS of it. I really do not have the curl to support her layers. I am going to ask for it to possibly be like hers in the front by her cheekbones. Mine is all one length with really long layers. I'd like some softening around my face and since I am not really wearing it up, I do not have the need to have the layers be so long.

She may explain why I cannot and that's okay, too. It was time for a trim anyway! Oh, and I printed off the pic of the girl holding the ipad/grand prize thing from the home page here-the rotating banner. Her hair is very much like mine and it has the softness around the face I would like to have if I can.

I think the thickness would matter a lot more than how curly - as long as your hair likes to clump up the same way pretty much all the time, they cut them to hang separately and it seems like it would be super pretty if it waved instead of spiralling.

Softer around my face like this:

My hair is very much like hers but you can see how much heavier mine looks cheekbones to chin. We'll see!

I love that haircut picture you posted JaJC!
My hair would totally do that if it were cut that way. It was just like that about 8 years ago, but I was anti-hair-styling products at the time.

That would be so much fun -- but I don't know if I dare change my look that much. So tempting.

I can't wait to see your cut!

Love it. Your hair seems to just keep improving. The waves seem to have just sprung up and it looks curlier. Hope it works for you.

Looks great! I like the photo/hair-style for your hair type!

I think bringing in a photo is key when getting a cut, whether it is a new hair dresser or your same one.

It keeps everyone on the same page as to what you want.

Have fun playing with your new locks!

Yes, Robin! I do not know why my hair looks red in the picture of the back, but at least the layering is visible.
