How do you all know???

What ingredients DON'T work in your hair? For example, I see lots of posts saying that "cones" don't work in their hair, or protein is not good for them. How did you narrow it down to those ingredients?
Just curious here and trying to figure out what is going to work in my hair, which by the way I have no idea what curl I am....I think I'm a 3b but not sure......
Thanks!

The only thing I go by is what my hair looks like after using something. I've never been able - or just don't have the patience - to narrow it down to a protein or any other specific cones like alot of people on here seem to be able to. I do know my hair likes cones, so I do use some products with them, but stay away from cone-laden stuff or the evilest cone, cyclopentasiloxane (so evil it doesn't end in "cone" ).

If I use a product and just don't like how my hair looks after using it 2-3 times, I put it in the product graveyard.

Not alot of help, but I know you'll get some feedback on this soon.

It's not exactly a science, but if your hair looks or feels bad after using products that contain a common ingredient (a type of cone or protein, for example), eventually you'll put 2 and 2 together. It's really just a matter of trial and error.

It's pretty much a trial and error type of routine. When I first joined I didnt' really know what worked and what didn't. Mostly went on recommendations of what other people raved about and picked and chose the ones that worked for me.

agree with trial and error. It took me a long, long time to figure it all out. For me.... proten dries my hair out, cones weigh it down as do oils.

My hair really had no huge problems with cones per say, but I stopped using them when I went CG/mod CG.

Protein is the big thing for me. I read a post here about it, and had an "AHA!" moment! As soon as I "cleaned out my closet" of ALL proteins, my hair began to behave. I've just begin experimenting with different types of proteins, and so far it's really only the wheat proteins that cause mega problems for me. Although, after a while-they all seem to.

I guess what I'm saying is I agree with the above posters who said it's trial and error. It takes a while, but in the end it's SO WORTH IT!
