I'm a stylist and I've NEVER heard that. And now I'm an educator too.

I did a thread on PT's and DT's. http://www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/showthread.php?t=105582 It should help you. Your hair is made of protein....even those that are the most protein sensitive need the occasional dose of it. I NEVER recommend not doing PT's at all...it's just a matter of finding what works for you. HTH...

A deep treatment is meant to add moisture. It is more moisturizing then your normal conditioner.
A protein treatment helps fill the "holes" in the cuticle of your hair caused by damage. Some hair is naturally prone to being damaged and is damaged easily by things like wind, sun, combing, etc. If you have fine hair, PTs help replace the protein that fine hair looses easily. Fine hair has a smaller cortex and has a harder time holding the required protein in it.
Too much protein is not good for hair, so do research before doing a PT to make sure it is what your hair needs.
Always follow a PT with a DT.
You need the right balance of protein and moisture for your hair. This article explains it well,

Hey thanks for the link. I found it very informative. But one question, is heating up extra virgin olive oil and honey, applying it to your hair, then put on a shower cap and leave it in for 30-55 minutes considered a protein treatment?

No, I'd consider that more of an oil/moisture treatment. I've never done homemade protein treatments but plenty of people use egg, mayonaise, yogurt, and things like that for it. YW I'm glad I could help! :D

Oh ok. I'm allergic to eggs so I think I'm just going to have to buy [buylink=https://www.curlmart.com/Spiral-Solutions-Repairing-Protein-Treatment-p-1074.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Spiral-Solutions-Repairing-Protein-Treatment]Spiral Solutions repairing protein treatment[/buylink].

So I just put on the protein treatment on dry hair, put on a shower cap, leave it for 30-55 minutes, then wash it out, towel dry hair alittle bit and use a deep treatment (Can i use [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Mop-Top-Deep-Conditioner-p-719.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=moptop-deep-conditioner]Moptop deep conditioner[/buylink]?) And can I just leave in the deep conditioner for like 5 minutes?

Also, what if I'm in a rush, can I just leave the protein treatment for 5 minutes and then use the deep conditioner for another 5 minutes?

    Thanks.

SSRPT is an AWESOME pt...I credit it to my hair being in one piece still and not falling off my head! I've been coloring like crazy recently.

No, wash first, then blot a bit with a towel, apply the SSRPT, and a cap. Leave it awhile, rinse, then towel dry again, apply your DT and leave it a bit and rinse. The nice thing with treatments is there is a lot of options...so yes, if you're in a hurry you can certainly do that, as well as leave the DT in less time. I tend to leave them in equally because I know my hair now and know that it needs that. The one suggestion: As far as mop top, it has protein in it so I wouldn't use it as your DT. Get something that's strictly moisture....SSDD, CJCR, or Biolage Conditioning balm or any of the knockoffs.

Ok yeah I understand. When you said, "No, wash first" do I wash with a sulfate free shampoo (e.g. Giovanni Tea Tree)? Or can I wash with a conditioner (e.g. AOHR conditioner)?

You can do either one. I tend to save my sulfate free washes for prior to a PT/DT because I get better results if I sulfate free cleanse and then treat.
