Another business claiming "handmade" products which is given as the reason for slow deliver (See her statement here) but is actually using Essential Wholesale bases. I almost fell for this...

TKO Skin:TkoSkin - Organic All Natural Stretch Mark Eczema Skin Healing Remover

Pumpkin Pie Face Mask is Essential Wholesale's Pro Pumpkin or Pumpkin Masque

    Complexion Polish
"could be" Essential Wholesale's Virgin Coconut Sugar Scrub but compare the ingredients list to come to your own conclusions. If the business isn't being truthful about a product's origins, they may not be truthful about their ingredient list.

Hmmm, IDK. Her version doesn't have the neem or rosemary oil - the EW brand does.

Hey green, see TKO's ingredients below which include neem and rosemary. As most businesses who use bases, she changes the ingredient names or the order of ingredients to make it harder for people to figure out their wholesale source.

Pumpkin, Billberry Fruit Extract, Sugar Cane Extract, Sugar Maple Extract, Orange Fruit Extract, Lemon Extract, Aqua, Kosher Vegetable Glycerin, Glycolic Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA, Vitamin E, Rum Raisin Astringent, Phenexyethanol, Meadowfoam Oil, Xanthan Gum, Vitamin C, Cinnamon Bark, Ginger Root Powder, Allspice Powder, Nutmeg Powder, Rosemary, Neem oil,

Oh snap! I was looking at the wrong product. That's why I rarely trust new companies these days until I see a few reviews. Its not the fact that they use bases, I cant stand the lying.

Green I agree, I'm lazy so I don't mind bases but I do mind lying about using bases, claiming products are handmade, blaming their handmade process on the delivery delays, and then lying about ingredients to mask the other lies.

Is everything a base or just these two products? Because if it's just these two items then the others could very well be handmade and the reason for the delay.

NaturallyCJ, It's possible but I doubt it. She claims that there are not preservatives or fillers in any of her products but that's not true statement either. For me if a business misrepresents one aspect of their business, I personally find it hard to trust any aspect of their business. For the record she only has 3 "mixed ingredients" products (the scrub, the body butter, pumpkin mask) and two of three are definitely EW bases. It's possible that she is getting her organic shea butter from EW as well, I'm sure they would give a volume discount considering the money she is spending with them to keep up with retail sales. *shrug*

Well if she says there are no preservatives then thats not accurate because phenoxyethanol is a preservative (even though she misspelled it on her listing). I will give her the benefit of the doubt and say she's just ignorant to the fact that phenoxeyethanol is a preservative and for that very reason i would never purchase her products. Ima need you to know whats in your stuff and what purpose it serves whether its a base or not. I personally dont think her cocnut complextion is a base. I looks like a simple sugar scrub to me that anyone could make. Maybe it is a base and she's just lying about the ingredients but i will give her the benefit of the doubt.

Hey, I know this request is a little "out there", but someone please tell me you know where I can purchase the base used for Aubrey Organic's Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner. I think they call it a Coconut Fatty Acid Cream Base. Does it exist anywhere outside of Aubrey's???

From AO's site - COCONUT FATTY ACID CREAM BASE — Absorption base containing essential fatty acids, coconut fatty alcohols from palm kernels, aloe vera and vitamins A, C and E. Rich in linoleic and linolenic acids (vitamin F), excellent nutrients and skin conditioners. In hair care products, it is often combined with the important amino acids cysteine and methionine, which are high in sulfur and excellent for the hair and scalp.

I think that is just their nickname for their cetearyl alcohol mix.

Is there a such thing as a base that's both glycerin and shea butter free? It might me like finding a needle in a haystack and its hard to find finished products that don't have those two ingredients in it...

i REALLLY want some of that butter madness... but the camden grey site came up on ripoff report... hmm idk. i wonder if any other site sells it.

Really? What did it say? I never had a problem with this vendor and I ordered from them twice.

The butter madness smells VERY good. I wish I had some to send to you guys, but I used it all up.
hmm never mind. that "ripoff" was actually the customers' fault.

back to ordering my butter madness and peppermint oil!!! :afro:

They have had other issues, mostly customer service problems: mostly rudeness, and 'tudes from the owner and employees. A Bad Experience With Camden-Grey Essential Oils - Comments and experiences are at the bottom of the post.

Huetiful Steamer Hair products are Essential Wholesale bases. Again I almost fell for it... Highly unlikely that there is actually Moringa Oil in either of bases they are repackaging just based on their retail selling price and the wholesale price of Moringa Oil alone. :-(

Huetiful Conditioner AND Huetiful Intense Hydrating Hair Masque

Listed Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis (Organic Aloe) Juice, Moringa oliefiera (Moringa) Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ricinus communis (Castor Seed) Oil, Stearalkonium Chloride, Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Mentha piperita (Peppermint) Essential Oil, Hydrolized Wheat, d-Calcium Pantothenate (Panthenol Vitamin B5)

    is actually

    Essential Wholesale Hair Masque

    Huetiful Sulfate Free Cleansing Shampoo

Listed Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis (Organic Aloe) Juice, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Kosher Vegetable Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Tetrasodium EDTA, Citric Acid

Huetiful Steamer Hair products are Essential Wholesale bases. Again I almost fell for it... Highly unlikely that there is actually Moringa Oil in either of bases they are repackaging just based on their retail selling price and the wholesale price of Moringa Oil alone. :-(

Huetiful Conditioner AND Huetiful Intense Hydrating Hair Masque

Listed Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis (Organic Aloe) Juice, Moringa oliefiera (Moringa) Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ricinus communis (Castor Seed) Oil, Stearalkonium Chloride, Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Mentha piperita (Peppermint) Essential Oil, Hydrolized Wheat, d-Calcium Pantothenate (Panthenol Vitamin B5)

    is actually

    Essential Wholesale Hair Masque

    Huetiful Sulfate Free Cleansing Shampoo

Listed Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis (Organic Aloe) Juice, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Kosher Vegetable Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Tetrasodium EDTA, Citric Acid

is actually Essential Wholesale's Basic Clear Sulfate Free Shampoo

I wonder if this is right, this is the list for the EW base:

Aloe barbadensis (Organic Aloe) Juice, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ricinus communis (Castor) Oil, Stearalkonium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, dl-Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5), Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Cocos nucifera (Coconut RBD) Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Limmnanthes alba (Meadowfoam) Oil (Refined)

The base has glycerin...I wonder if they instead are getting private label bases and tweaking them a little bit. I would think that they should mention glycerin is in the product if it really is the base.

    CurlyElectra,

Call me jaded. So many of these companies are buying the bases and fudging the ingredients list in a misguided attempt to prevent customers from knowing the truth. History tells me that their ingredient list has been tweaked to promote sales and prevent being called out for using bases.

I see what you're saying, but you have no proof whatsoever. Just a "hunch" that companies are keeping ingredients out because they don't want people to find out they are using bases. Also, I can't find anyplace on the Huetiful site that says their products are made from scratch. They just say they "formulated" it, which would be different than making something from scratch. I don't think it's really fair to just post things without doing a little more digging unless the ingredients lists are identical. Or, like with AfroVeda...when Mala basically used the exact same description as EW on her site. Which was hilarious...

CurlyElectra you are certainly entitled to your opinion but that's the beauty of this thread...it's for people to draw their own conclusions based on what is presented. I drew mine and you drew yours.

This entire thread is based on speculation as we don't have an admission from any company that yes they are simply buying bases from EW, WSP, ITDF. If it quacks like a duck...*kanyeshrug*

If there are two identical ingredients lists (like, an exact list with fragrance at the end), I think that one can draw the conclusion that the products are the same. However, the ingredients lists you posted were not the same. That's a little different. You also accused them of blatantly lying to customers by leaving out ingredients...most of the ingredients lists in here highlight ALL of the ingredients of a base, with some other stuff added by the company. That's also different than leaving things out, especially an ingredient like glycerin that many naturals find to be dew dependent.

Also, from the beginning of the thread, posters have stated that using a base in itself is not wrong.

And yes, Mala never admitted to using bases, but when it was "speculated," she changed her descriptions and removed her ingredients lists. IMO, that's pretty guilty.

You seem defensive about my post, and it's not necessary - I'm not even saying you are wrong in your conclusion. I just think that you should try to do some more research (like contacting the company), before coming in this thread with the tone that you had in presenting your information, especially because they never claimed to make it in the first place, so maybe they'll just tell you. Perhaps next time you should just post the ingredients and let people compare for themselves (like a lot of people do in here) rather than rant about a company who didn't even claim to make their own stuff.

**No, I don't have a Huetiful steamer, and no, I have never bought their products. I just think that this thread is valuable and I wouldn't want people to discredit it.**

Oh, and there was a company that admitted to not making all of their products. Zipporah did that I believe, and she even changed the About section of her site after the products were compared on this site.

    CurlyElectra,

The great thing about this thread is that everyone is free to post their findings and everyone is free to come to their own conclusions.

You came in the thread accusing me of "doing wrong" by posting what I found and the conclusions that I've drawn. As with everyone in this thread, there is going to be disagreements as to what information is presented and how that information is interpreted. This much is clear even within our own dialogue.

You seem to have gotten a bug in your britches about my posts. Que Sera Sera. Not the first time this has happened in the history of message boards and it won't be the last. Neither of us will hold the patent on that, but thankfully I can say NC is alot less mean spirited regarding disagreements than other boards.

As for Zipporah, ironic that you brought her up given that it was my post in the original thread which brought her out of the woodworks. She lied then, violated NC's posting rules and people caped for her. *kanyeshrug* More power to them because Lawd knows I've caped for a business or product that I loved.

You've brought up some good points, just like everyone else in this ongoing thread. Your points however aren't going to stop me from posting my findings, posting my opinions on those findings, or make me retract any statement. If that is what you are getting at...

If NC finds my posts inaccurate, misleading, sladerous, etc...I'm sure they can and will step in to moderate my posts.

You can post whatever you want, and people are free to disagree with you. It's not that serious. Moving on...

Oh, and never once did I say you were wrong - in fact, I said in my previous post that your conclusion may not be wrong. Don't put words in my fingers. Thanks.

Just to throw something out there...

Essential Wholesale also provides formulation services as well as manufactoring and private label services. The ingredient lists between Heutiful and the generic EW base are close, but I think the more locgical explanation is that Heutiful contracted with EW to make certain tweaks to the generic base to create a personalized formula for them to sale/market as a private label product...which isn't quite the same thing as using a base.

I think for a lot of products where the ingredient list is very similar to a companies base, they are most likely using the private label services of the company to customize the base to thier specs/request.

i REALLLY want some of that butter madness... but the camden grey site came up on ripoff report... hmm idk. i wonder if any other site sells it.

:afro:

    Wow, you almost got me Ojon. I saw this lovely review and began thinking, "hey, that looks like a rich delicious treat for my strands." Good thing I looked up the ingredients for the mask;

Ojon Restorative Mask: Elaeis Oleifera (American species of palm oil), Fragrance, Lecithin, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Citric Acid, Serenoa Serrulata (saw palmetto), Prunus Africana (wild cherry extract).

Really, unrefined palm oil! $55 for 5 oz! Ojon, you realllll funny. I can get the unrefined African species (with the exact same qualities) from Coastal Scents for $12!

Found a helpful blog post here (I know, I am tardy to the party!). :tongue3:
