OK, let me get this straight, I'm only on page 3 but you guys are basically saying all these companies are using a premade base for conditioners, oils, cremes, and butters, so all I have to do is pick up one of these bases, add some oils and EO's and I have the same damn thing??????

    yep. :wav:

we need to start a thread for base recipe's that are the same as these companies. Has anyone gotten any of these bases and tried out some recipes. I'm still a little unsure about the 5% part that you can add.... I'm slow, yes I know it, but I have some EO's, castor, coconut oils, and I have shea, avocado, and mango butter here so that should be able to get me some things going right?

Can I make henna infused oils, like steep some henna with oils or something???

How about Shea Moisture's Coconut and Hibiscus Smoothie. I don't think targer shows the full ing list.

Is this a base, because I was going to buy this next but if I can get it as a base and add coconut oil or something, then I'm going to buy it.

This is an excellent thread. I am going to see if I can find some good bases here in the UK, if not I will order from the US next year if the shipping is reasonable.

Does anyone know the base that Darcy Botanicals uses for her pumpkin seed conditioner
Anyone find an Aubrey Organics base *crosses fingers* :toothy8:?
These are my staple conditioners. Don't forget to check out www.vitaglo.com they have the cheapest prices that I have seen for Aubrey Organics products

Yes, you can infuse oils and use those oils.

By 5% when I mean is for example.
Say you want to make 100g of conditioner from a base. 95g will be the base and 5 grams (5% of 100g) will be your additives (oils, proteins, humectants, extracts, etc.). You want to make sure that the things you add are not hot as this will compromise the preservative in the base (so adding butters is probably out of the questions since these are solid at room temp and need to be heated to become liquid for better incorporation). So everything should be below 45C.

    HTH

Also, I don't think sheamoisture uses bases.

Here's one that I recently discovered was a base. I LOVE this as a leave/styler combo so I was surprised to find it was a base. Not hating on the company that's selling it, but I can get it cheaper directly from supplier here.

There's an old thread on here (in one of the other sections of the board) that give a list of products that people love that are really bases so that you can buy the base directly cheaper.
NCC, thanks for posting that web site. The unscented products look very good!

Aubrey Organics uses a coconut fatty acid cream base that I believe is unique to their company. & its not like the other ones mentioned in the thread where its a combo of ingredients, I dont think it would do much alone. I think that base is just the coconut fatty acid cream and the ingredients they add make up the different formulas. I have their skincare stuff and they use it in that too, even the soap.

Yeah I think the only "base" they'd use is their fatty acid cream base..

Speaking of which, you can find out what it is on their website. I suppose they have to start showing the full INCI ingredients on their products now. 'Cause the original ingredients used to be listed as:

Aubrey Organics Island Naturals Replenishing Conditioner

Ingredients: Coconut Fatty Acid Cream Base, Organic Aloe Vera, Wheat Germ Oil, Almond Protein; Extracts of Fennel, Hops, Balm Mint, Mistletoe, Camomile and Yarrow; Organic Coconut Milk, Jojoba Butter, Organic Shea Butter, Horsetail Extract, Coltsfoot Extract, Aubrey's Preservative (Citrus Seed Extract, Vitamins A, C and E), Vegetable Glycerin, Organic Rosemary Oil, Pimenta Leaf Oil, Allspice Powder, Organic Sage Oil, Carrot Oil

and now on the website they're listed as:

INGREDIENTS INCI: Aqua, cetyl alcohol, alcohol denat. (38b, lavender*), triticum vulgare (wheat) germ oil, hydrolyzed sweet almond protein, glycerin, aloe barbadensis (aloe) leaf juice*, pimenta acris (bay) leaf oil, pimenta dioica fruit extract, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil*, citrus grandis (grapefruit) seed extract, jojoba esters (jojoba butter), butyrospermum parkii (shea butter)*, cocos nucifera (coconut) fruit juice*, salvia officinalis (sage) oil*, foeniculum vulgare (fennel) fruit extract, humulus lupulus (hops) extract, melissa officinalis (balm mint) leaf extract, viscum album (mistletoe) fruit extract, chamomilla recutita (matricaria-German camomile) extract, tocopheryl acetate, hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) water, ascorbic acid, achillea millefolium (yarrow) extract, equisetum hyemale (horsetail) extract, tussilago farfara (coltsfoot) leaf extract, glycine soja (soybean) oil, daucus carota sativa (carrot) root extract, beta carotene.
    *Organic

So Aubrey Organics' "coconut fatty acid cream base" is water, cetyl alcohol, and denatured alcohol.

AO lists coconut fatty acid base. The fact that they write "base" doesn't mean that they are using a base in the sense that AV was using a base for her conditioners. It probably means (and I'm guessing here) that they make this cream base and build on it in each of their products. And because they use it in all their creamy products, it's cost effective to just make a whole bunch of it for use later. Just like if you are making a ton of soap, you can premix all the oils you normally use and then just measure what you need to make each batch
Cetyl acohol is fatty alcohol derived from coconuts. The rosemary peppermint GBP whole foods exclusive edition has the full ingredients listed (i.e., no mention of coconut fact acid base, but lists cetyl alcohol)

I think AO just wanted to protect their formulation---still though, knowing ingredients doesn't tell you information about the formulation, I don't get why companies, small and large, hide ingredient information.

    :headbang: You ladies rock!

As a (struggling) recovering PJ, I and my wallet appreciate this more than I can say. I'd planned to do a tour of all product lines, in search of my HG, but it's like now, why bother?

For now, I think I'm going to stick with my occasional HR foray, and regular use of Suave TC, AOWC, OBSP, and butters, but continue to experiment with homemade styling aids. If anything comes out in the future, I'll know how to check the ingredients.

I am faithfully waiting for CJ to be available on the ground near me. In the meantime, I casually left their site open on the SO's computer for a strong ass hint for a Birthday gift. He of course, being a man, will probably not even notice...

Thanks for answering my question, guys! I'm bummed it's not a base I can buy.

Has anyone found a base similar to Biolage Hydrating Balm and its more generic version, BioInfusion Hydrating Conditioning Balm (which I also hear is close to Sally's GVP)? My hair loves this conditioner, but I'm trying to avoid parabens.

I've googled quite a bit and haven't found anything, but I thought maybe someone else has. Here are the ingredients:

Water (Aqua), Myristyl Alcohol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Cetearyl Alcohol, Iso Decyl Oleate, Propylene Glycol, Fragrance (Parfum), Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Coumarin, Linalool, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Hydroxycitronellal, Amyl Cinnamal, Polysorbate-20, Geraniol, Algae, Algae Extract, Rosemary Extract (Rosmarinus Officinalis), Golden Seal Extract (Hydrastis Canadensis).

    Thanks for any info!

Not all companies use bases. And it's small handmade companies that are more likely to use bases rather than giant corps. I don't think you will find a base for Biolage

Thanks! 8-) I was pretty sure they're not using a base, but I'm hoping to find another base that's similarly made.

I purchased the following creme bases from Essential Wholesale during their BF sale yesterday:

    Jojoba creme
    Aloe Nourishing creme
    Goat Milk creme
    Hair Masque conditioner
Whipped Massage Jelly (can't remember which hair vendor sold this as hair jelly-lol)
    Ultimate Facial serum

My savings from the sale just paid for the shipping, which was high as hell.

The shipping cost has prevented me from buying from essentialwholesale.com. Their BF sale was pretty wack to me. I am going to hold off and see if they have a better Christmas sale.

Just finished using EW's Olive Creme as a leave-in after doing a Amla/Brahmi treatment. I usually have issues with products sitting atop my hair, even after steaming; but, my hair absorbed the Olive Butter creme without issue.

For those looking for a very light butter, or thicker creme-like product, EW's Olive Creme is a winner.

I'll continue to update as I use the product for the rest of the week.
