I think all forums have issues. People are people and there is bound to be disagreement and misunderstanding....sigh

I joined nappturality when I bc'd. The only useful thing I got out of that membership was info about natural hair care lines mainly QB (because the others did NADA for me lol). I let my subscription expire and my account was closed. I won't be rejoining. The atmosphere was more hostile than necessary. Honestly I think some of them were drinking some expired Black Panther juice...just sayin' (this in addition to the censorship blah)

I lurk on LHCF. I'm not joining. I'm not obsessed about growth/length. My hair grows so...whatev. I go on there to look at pics. I've noticed how too many of them are... know-it-all-know-nothings. As in too quick to give advice when based on there replies they haven't understood or even read the original post. I saw a post on there from someone looking for a silicone-free, protein-free and oil-free conditioner. They kept telling her to seal with oil. :geek: I'm not fond of know-it-alls. And some of them are rude for no reason. Just because the internet is anonymous doesn't mean you have to throw tact into the wind. At least I don't.

I'm on BHM too. The atmosphere is quite nice. Quiet...but nice.

I didn't know you had to pay for nappturality! I joined back in 2002 not long after she started. I left after it got too nasty ('04) I know it cost $$$ to run a website though...

You don't have to pay for NP, but there are a bunch of locked threads that are only for subscribers or something...I'm a member but I rarely log on.

It's not a "fee" its called a (cough MANDATORY cough) donation LOL It was $20 to have full access to the products sub-forums. You either subscribe or had to have a certain number of posts. I was desperate and impatient so I donated. I support the "cause" so I was not bothered by it. :afro:

nappturality turned me off when some girl w/ 3b/3c type hair started a thread saying she wished she had kinkier hair and all the posters cursed her out. it wouldnt be so bad if they were "cursing" her saying she should accept HER texture or something like that, but they were basically accusing her of trying to make them jealous, and shes just making fun of them or some crap like that. i believe the thread got locked or something... maybe they took it down, idk. but every thread i read on that site seemed to deterorate into extreme hostility and people forming whole arguments based on something they THOUGHT a poster was saying (sometimes they MADE UP the other poster's argument even when they werent arguing anything).

<== yea, that's basically how i feel. and the groupthink seems to be at a higher level over there.

i cant say much about BHM. ive been there once or twice but i cant base my opinions on the posts i saw b/c those were on SPECIFIC topic that i googled (basically i went looking for ignorance and happened to find it there) so im sure those arent typical threads.

nc.com is just the most tolerable to me for some reason. but, different strokes for different folks.

i HAVE seen some drama on this site.

NCC I think you're right. One of those were BMT (sp??) flakes and needs water added so that's not a base.

Not only that, you (general you) have to remember that a base is a FINISHED product if you have to add water and preservatives then it is not a base. The only thing you can add to bases are additional oils, herbal powders/extracts (essential oils), and frangrance oils. That's it, and it has to be less than 5% of the total mixture. If you look at the bases we found for Afroveda, they are EXACT matches except for the oils and herbal extracts she added. The hairveda stuff posted is too off for it to be a bases. I'm sure that she might use bases, but it's not the ones posted.

Exactly. You hit pay dirt with the Almond Glaze and the Whipped Gelly, Divadee. The other things have ingredients that are a little off to be sure. If you go back to the first page and look at the Brendita, Jasmine's, Zipporah comparisons and Afroveda on pg. 9, you'll see what we mean. It looks almost exactly the same except for an oil or 2 and often listed in the same order.

^^^^ that site is where I first heard of hair typing and the mysterious "C-Napp" LOL I feel like some of them who have 4b hair that they don't like and/or have not learned how to handle go overboard with notion to "love your hair" even so far as to make up a new degree of "nappiness" to feel special rather than outcast. Insecurity is a b-word. Its really odd. I tried to get help about the different textures/patterns on my head and was ignored for the most part. Some of them act like anything looser than 4a is not really "natural" its just regular ole curly. Ironically enough...it is there that I first read the phrase "making curls pop" (and it STILL drives me CRAZY)

Anybody know where I can get this base?

Conditioner base: water, cetyl alcohol, stearalkonium chloride, propylene glycol, dicetyldimonium chloride, white tea extract, ginger root extract, hydrolyzed keratin, benzyl benzoate linalool, cirtic acid, DMDM hydantoin

That's from CurlsBySistersSmith.com They list that they use a base on their site.

    Well I sent a request.

This board is weird anyway. A lot of boards I was on, mods reflected the forum. So like... The mods were ppl that posted good thread topics regularly or had a lot of knowledge in a certain forum topic. Like I was a mod on a hip hop board for Females in hip hop and I'm a mod on an off topic discussion of another board. There should be a 4a mod from this forum that posts here regularly and people who are in the forum like.

Just to sum up and clarify on the AV conditioners because several bases were found and I made an error on 2 of the conditioners.

    - Holy Basil, Coconut Moisture, & Neem - If you like these you can use this: http://www.ingredientstodiefor.com/item.php?item_id=102&category_id=53

    - Ashlii Amala Red Rasberry Mask has a base that can be found on the EW site. http://www.essentialwholesale.com/s.nl/sc.9/category.107069/.f

    - If you like the The Tea Tree and Lemon, Ylang, CinnaMint, B.A.R.E, and possibly the Ananda (???) conditioners, you can use these bases: http://www.bulkskincare.com/Bulk-Tea-Tree-Hair-Conditioner-p/741gcot.htm

    http://www.bulkskincare.com/Bulk-Aromatherapy-Conditioner-Ylang-and-Ginger-p/741gcoy.htm

    http://www.bulkskincare.com/Aromatherapy-Conditioner-Rosemary-Mint-1-Gallon-p/741gcor.htm

    http://www.bulkskincare.com/Conditioner-AromaFree-reg-Unscented-1-gallon-p/75coag.htm

The Prana and Miss Bhuriti seem to be an EW base of some kind but I'm not sure. I'm not sure what base (if they are from a base) the Kissi and Nu Milk conditioners are.

Someone had a question about the WheatPro Plus but I can't find it now. They were wondering if they had to add it in. It's already in it. When you click the Wheatpro Plus link you see its INCI name is Quaternium-79 Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein. It's also the name Ingredients to Die for puts in its base. WheatPro Plus is like a brand name and it's how Mala names it in her list. So no, it's not 2 different things. So for example...

    Ingredients to Die's Creme Conditioner
INCI: Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Simondsia Chinensis Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii Seed Butter, Glycerin, Quaternium-79 Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Panthenol, Tocopherol Acetate, Allantoin, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbic Acid
    .

    Is seen...Neem +3 Hair Conditioner
aloe vera leaf juice, neem oil, safflower oil, nettle, amalaki herb, behentriomonium methosulfate, cetearyl alcohol, shea butter, almond oil, herbal oil complex, glycerin, panthenol vitamin B5, tocopheryl (vitamin E), allantoin, wheatPRO plus, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, sorbic acid, a wonderfully citrus essential oil blend of lime, orange, thyme, and tangerine, and love.

Now exactly lying. She also did something similar with the Dimethicone (from silica) but on her ingredients list put "Silica" with the new conditioners. That was more deceptive.
4a/b Texlaxed hair w/ highlights. Medium texture & high porosity.
