Thinking of switching from L'Oreal color to Herbatint or Naturtint. Thoughts??

Both get great reviews on places like vitacost. I like the L'Oreal and have used it for years but have heard good things about these and my DDIL has successfully used them (she used one and cannot remember which it was). I have heard to go a shade lighter than what I want or what I use in drugstore colors.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Warnings? Prefer one over the other?

I appreciate it very much!!

I'm a big Naturtint fan. :) I haven't used Herbatint -- it's not as widely available on the ground here and didn't seem to have as many shades so I went with Naturtint.

I was using Nice 'n Easy before and had no problems switching over to Naturtint. It's really gentle on my hair and I love the long-lasting gray coverage that I get...it seems to last longer than Nice 'n Easy ever did.

I do go a shade or two lighter than the color I want (I have very dark brown hair naturally and usually go towards auburn shades).

I used the Naturtint and loved it. And, like Wendi.Wendy says, it's best to go about 2 shades lighter than you want.

I am naturally a dark ash blonde and colour to a dark brown so I had issues with my root/regrowth area being too light. I used the Naturtint two or three times and the colour was rich and dimensional and lasted but had to ultimately go to a pro because I was colouring so much darker than my natural colour.

If you are only colouring within two shades of your natural colour, I think you'll be fine!
3a/and that one odd straight hair! Medium iii. Low porosity. Likes protein once in a blue moon, but only followed by moisture. Hates glycerin.

My hairdresser told me to stay away from herbatint. I have used it before I went to her & was fine. One of my friends has said that bad things will happen to your hair if you try to colour you hair after it. I didn't have that porblem with it either, but my hair is pretty resiliant.
