Alternatives to Afroveda?

CoilyKinks436CoilyKinks436 Posts: 76Registered Users
Hi Ladies!!

I just went on AV's website to realize that her 8oz butters now cost close to $22 dollars and her 16oz $36 dollars !!!! I love her butters and hair oils but has she gone mad????? I refuse to pay that much for an 8 oz. I don't care how good her products but that's just insane!

Anyone know of other alternatives to this overpriced line, especially with respect to butters?

I am SO mad and disappointed with Afroveda! UGH!!!! angry9:angry9:angry9:

Oh she done lost her dayum mind. That's dayum near Miss Jessies' prices. Well I guess I won't be purchasing from her anymore. I mean how in the heck can you justify more than doubling almost tripling the price of your product in less than two years? I know supply prices have increased but DAYUM.

I would suggest the Shea Moisture line from Target.

OH. MY. GOD. SERIOUSLY?! She's lost it.

AND THE PROCESSING TIME IS STILL 14 DAYS?! :protest:

I suggest Komaza, Shea Moisture, Oyin or Donna Marie. Wow that's so ridiculous. I still have Curl Define, Cocolatte and PUR Whipped Gelly from February...I was considering getting more PWG but DEFINITELY not now! Smh.

This is crazy!!! I remember paying $9 for an 8 oz of Cocolatte earlier this year. Nine dollars! Now you're telling me the same product is worth close to 3x as much????

I'm just so mad because AV was one of my staples. Now I have to find alternatives. *sigh*

Even Qhemet hasn't raised their prices. Why AV? :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I just went looked at the website, and her ingredients haven't changed so I'm curious as to why the sudden dramatic price increase. Shea butter don't cost that much in bulk!

Yes....I remember when I first discovered her. That was one of the things that I LOVED about her company and the product. That it was fairly priced and that it wasn't "junk". I was ok when she rasied the price to $12...I was willing to continue to purchase at $16 and $18 (but only when on sale and then I would stock up). But at $22 she can kiss my fat black azz. There is nothing in her products that justifies charging that much. And then on top of that I've got to wait 14 days for you to make it and with all the customer service issues that people have been posting about lately.......

I'm soooo disgusted right now. Why do most natural hair product companies try and use the Miss Jessies' model for pricing thier products? Is it because we the consumer continue to pay through all the price increases rather than using our wallets to send a message? UGGGHHH!

Exactly! Last time I ordered I got 32 oz sizes of everything and they were around $30 each! This is just crazy...maybe she was already losing customers so she had to increase the price to make a profit. But who da hell is gonna buy that sh*t now?

On top of all that, she's discontinued the 32oz sizes. Even though I never purchased her products, I'd like the know the reasoning behind those drastic changes also. That's a good way to lose your faithful customers.

She changed the ingredients, the jars, the labels, and whatnot , ok so now the prices AND you still dont have it together, psshsh you wont see another nickle of my money.

I was a die hard fan, I promoted her big time but ole well no matter, Im sticking with Qhemet where I know what Im getting is always high caliber and well worth the price

ETA: cause im fuming , oh and dont let me get on that busted azz Seven line as well as BARE and now you trying to sell an emu oil line , cho wah a do this chick????

Why is the hemp seed lock butter now $23.50 for an 8 0z. good grief.

Has anyone ever order from sage naturalseucticals off ebay? They have some afroveda butters for sale.

Did she ever get staff!?!?!?! I know last time she increased the prices she said it was because she was getting staff to decrease shipping time and increase customer response...and NOTHING changed.

In fact, last week the "stylers" tab was missing, so I emailed her and asked if she was still making the PWG (was wondering if she just decided to focus on the butters b/c they are the hot items), and never heard anything about that either. What bollocks.

So now, I'm officially mad and I ain't even ordered anything from her. Lol!! She is charging $25 for the 4-2 oz butter samples. She really has lost what all God gave her. That is re-damn-donkulous!!!

    You see that's just outrageous.
I mean when she went from $9 to $12.50 I dropped her because I couldn't take the long turn around and poor customer service and my sis thought I was being harsh but to jump from $12.50 to $22 for whipped shea? I think not

I was about to place an order yesterday when the old prices were up. I wish I had. I will never order from her again. The 32 oz sizes were what kept me from tripping with her order turnaround time.

Did she not take into account what jacking these prices up will do to her?

Qhemets isnt even $20 bucks, who does she think she is?? I mean that in the most nonsarcastic way possible??

you think shea butter thats not whipped right , and arrives with oil on the top is worth $20 bucks?

you think cocoabutter smelling like rank vomit is worth $20 bucks??

Really??/ you think that highly of yourself? What idiot is buying up that Seven line? How well did that BARE go over?? REALLYY???

Yo , I'm behind trying to figure out what the deal is.

OK I have been mad about this since I read about it this morning but seriously, the OP and I need some help from you real pj sistas to hip us onto something else. We all seem to be ready to drop that hot potato mess. Yeah, we can whip shea, and I guess I can get off my a*s and find the ayurvedic ingredients she uses. Meanwhile, I am sooo entertaining thoughts and suggestions on what to try when I don't have the time to do that and my AV stash runs out. I live in the suburbs and, keeping it real, Cali is slow on getting the new-new on the ground. OK, I am being a bit spoiled but can it be someone with less of a customer service hangup than AfroVeda?

    +1

Its hard to find other ayurvedic alternatives. My hair loves those herbs. :-( Hairveda is the only other ayurvedic line I can think of but her products don't work well on my hair. I need heavy butters that provide lots of moisture and other than Qhemet, most don't have very moisturizing butters.

I'm looking at trying out Komaza products, particularly the Califia Pudding, Califia Moisturizing Cream and Moku Hair Butter. I really love my AV Cocolatte though. :-( :-( :-(

I would say Qhemet is probably the best ayurvedic line thats out there....her products are moisturizing and they last a LONG time.

Outside of that, you can experiment with buying butter bases from some of the bulk places and adding your own ayurvedic stuff to it.

I've pretty much not ordered anything online in almost 6-7 months, and even that was just replenishing my "old reliables". I'm not up on the new companies that are out. The only ones I can recommend would be Qhemet and Oyin. I don't use KBB anymore because while her prices didn't go up, her sizes went down (which is basicly the same thing). Everything else I use I get on the ground....and I can get Qhemet and Oyin on the ground here in DC.

    Sorry I'm not much help.

Wait, y'all were really checkin' for her stuff like that? Hmm. I think her products are good, but I never saw a real benefit in using ayurvedic herbs in products unless you're doing a highly concentrated treatment. Those were always hype ingredients to me, but I didn't mind getting them because the prices were reasonable - I certainly don't think they are worth paying a significant amount for. But that's just me. I have other products that caused me to cross AV off my holy grail list anyway. Here's how it goes, hopefully this is helpful to some:

WOW ... I’m really disappointed in this. I have been using the PWG for the past yr... and I was just getting ready to re-stock... this is really pissin me off that just when I find something that works the price increases... absolutely ridiculous.. AND I would still have to wait 2 weeks to get it?? WTH?? Where I come from the increase in cost should be commiserate with better service/product/size increases... This is some bull-ish straight up
Who raises the prices and doesn’t improve the service?? Where they do that at!?

Thanks Elle, the only thing I was really hooked on was the PWG.. and it's funny b/c I never bothered to try Komaza b/c of the price point... I guess I will go ahead and give them a try now since there really is no difference price-wise.. I'm out done right now for real.. It's hard to find a glycerin-free styler that I can use on dry hair that won't leave me stiff and flaky. DAAYUM!!! DAYUUM DAAAYUM (in Florida Evans' voice)

Heck yes I was checkin for it like that. I have scalp problems that the consistent use of ayrurvedic herbs has greatly improved.

What's up with the prices for the oils (the original ones - not the emu oils at the top of the page) being reduced? Is this a permanent or temporary reduction?

That's all I can say... just wow!

For an alternative to the PWJ, I think Ori Organics' Mango Curler is a nice one. My braidouts have been gorgeous this week, thanks to it. Not as pudding like, but very similar going on and the performance was exactly the same.
