Anyone else disappointed that he was never brought to trial?

Chile under Pinochet's rule is a good example of why the US shouldn't step onto the slippery slope of torture, kidnapping, secret prisons, etc.

I was going to post this!

It is a TRAVESTY that he was never brought to trial! So many people still don't have answers as to their loved one's whereabouts. He tortured family members of mine.

Never mind Pinochet being an example of how the US should not act - the US helped put him in power and is partly responsible for his reign of terror. Shameful.

I feel bad for his victims that feel they were robbed of any closure.
Madonna getting upset with her daughter for dressing too slutty is like Mr. T getting upset with his son for pitying too many fools.

I was actually surprised that he had died; there was a lot of speculation that this was another of his stunts to avoid trial. It is messed up that he will never be brought to justice, it always seems to end this way for murderous/fraudster dictators.

There were some violent protests in Santiago last night, after confrontations between his supporters and people who suffered under his reign.

in the interest of accuracy, he was in the process of being tried for some of his crimes, and was under house arrest at the time of his death.

cold comfort i'm sure for the victims' families, as indeed he certainly was never brought to justice; he was never convicted nor was he sentenced for anything.

ita with what you said as well amneris. for great shame. this country. i shudder.

Beyond shameful. And sadly, from my experience, very few Americans are aware of our role supporting murderous regimes in numerous countries.

My SO's family is Argentine and their lives were changed forever by the military junta in Argentina--luckily they escaped with their lives, but they know many people who were tortured and/or killed (including the family priest, who was a torture victim), and the members of the regime have escaped prosecution. Many have died of old age by now, like Pinochet. It is beyond words.
