I'm seriously considering getting one for my Christmas present. I tried to deny their awesomeness...but I just can't. I spent almost all day on Amazon reading discussion groups, looking at the commercials and checking book availability. I'm in :love4:!!!

Any owners out there with advice, tips, or bewares??? Thanks so much :hello2:

Kindle owner checking in! I've only had my Kindle 3 for about a week or so and I LOVE it. I've already read several books on it. I would suggest that if you plan on getting one, get the free kindle for PC app from amazon, that way you can take advantage of free books/book sales that are posted frequently (usually its free for a day-1week).

Also, check out this board (http://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=140) The folksthere are AWESOME...have developed lots of hacks and had tons of free (and legal) ebooks for Kindle (and several other ereaders) that have been converted by members.

Thank you so much! I didn't even think about downloading the free MAC app for my computer. Will be able to keep the books I download now with the free app and download them onto my Kindle once I get one??? Man, I'm totally gonna love this. :blob4:

yes. Just make sure the Mac and the kindle are registered to the same Amazon account.

Also, if you check here daily (or whatever freqency you want), they update what new books are being offered for free (or discounted) for Kindle as well as Nook and Sony. This blog is on my daily browsing "path" that I check every morning. I usually download 2-3 FREE books daily directly to my kindle.

If/when you get one....def join the mobile read forums. They are the best place for advice / how to information!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Kindle. I received a Kindle 2 for Christmas last year and, to be honest, I've never read so much in such a short period of time! I've read about 60 books since Christmas.

Anyhoo... I wanted to add a couple of things about the Kindle as compared to other e-readers. First, here's a link to a 2011 Comparison List of e-Readers: http://ebook-reader-review.toptenreviews.com/ Honestly, aside from maybe Christmas sales, Kindle is the cheapest and still the best. Don't be fooled by others who say they have the most books - they really don't. Kindle wins that, hands-down. I wish I could find it again - a girl did the research on how many books are actually available to each e-reader and Amazon had THOUSANDS more than any other e-reader.

And for customer service, Amazon can't be beat. And I say this from personal experience. 3 months after receiving my Kindle, I dropped it on my driveway and cracked the screen to bits. I didn't know what to do. So, I called them up and told them what happened and asked what I could do. I was thinking "out of warranty... I did it - no fault of the manufacturer... I'm sunk - I'll have to buy a new one...". NOPE. They not only replaced it for free, but, they overnighted it to me, as well. I had a brand new one the next day. I highly doubt any other company would go that far to keep their customer happy. ;)

So... that's my story and I'm stickin' to it. :) Enjoy yours if you choose to get one!!

I love my Kindle! Just beware, since it is so easy to buy new books I find myself just buying, buying, buying. I need to take more advantage of the free books!

I *love* my Kindle 3. I got it in early October. I was waffling between the Nook and the Kindle but I decided to go with the Kindle after I was able to play around with the Nook at my local B&N. I wanted something that closely replicates reading an actual book, and I think the K3 is better on that score (for me). Reading the screen is very close to reading a book page (for me). Anyway, I haven't picked up a paper book since I got my Kindle, and I have 100+ books loaded onto it --most of them free or greatly discounted. I read 2-3 books per week. :)

We just got one for my mum. I have charged it up and put some books on it for her for xmas day :)

I can certainly see the appeal of instantly being able to read any book within seconds of downloading (I could see myself spending A LOT of money quickly - Im impatient when I want to read something). And the screen is easy to read and I really like that it isn't backlit. No eye strain.

But....I still love books. The paper, the smell etc. So we'll see.

Santa is bringing me one. I had decided on the Nook, but he ordered it before I told him. (Actually - my husband ordered it through his Amazon account instead of our joint one but forgot to have it delivered to his office. I almost opened it when it came thinking it was a gift I had ordered, but then realized what it was) I was having a hard time picking one over the other, so I don't mind at all. I'm looking forward to playing with it over my 2 week break from work. Now I won't have an excuse for not reading my book club's selection each month! I also want to catch up on some of the classics I never made myself read.

I was against the Kindle at first because it was expensive (over $400) when it first came out, plus the original was like the size of a textbook. But i came around when the Kindle 3 was released. It was a lot smaller and had 3g. My dad got me the Kindle 3 for x-mas. I wanted the 3g+wifi but my dad accidentally got the one with only wifi, but i'm not complaining, it is still amazing, and the screen and reading quality is unbeatable. Plus, hundreds of free books lol. I've already downloaded a book required for one of my classes on it, so its great for students. I would definitely suggest it for any avid book reader. I certainly enjoy it, I'm a History major so I'm required to read ALOT!! :) Plus you can use it overseas without any extra costs (except for buying books of course), which is a bonus for me because i've studied abroad and plan on doing it again and this will save space when it comes to bringing along books for reading.
