I have been transitioning for a little more than a month.

Like you I think I'm in it for the long term. I absolutely can't do the TWA and I just got my bra strap length hair cut into a bob before deciding to transition. The only way I'm BC'ing is if I get crazy amounts of new growth and then I'll just wear sew-ins until my natural hair is at least shoulder length. I know, I'm a chicken :)

Right now I have a sew-in. I used the Bohyme Brazillian Wave (AKA bobraz) hair which mimics my natural 3b-3c hair. A lot of people use this hair while transitioning to get used to taking care of their natural hair, I've had it for three days and so far so great.
    Transitioning to natural

Natural hair is thick 3B/3C, medium texture, average porosity

    Routine *still building*:
    • Moisturize and seal everyday with extra virgin olive oil
    • Co-wash, deep condition, and seal once a week:
    • Shampoo/ACV wash every other week
  • SmilingElephantSmilingElephant Registered Users Posts: 666 Curl Neophyte
Maybe much later on in my transition i might try a sew in....but i've only had one sew in in my life....it was nice...but i just don't like having foreign hair in my hair....if that makes sense:snorting:

I know one thing though....conditioner will forever be in my regimen! Lol....thats how i got this far really:rabbit:

I like Hair One cleanser...but i wonder if there's a brand that has a similar product but in a much bigger bottle and a much better scent...bc i don't really like the way it smells:?

    I'm in!!!!

I joined the previous challenge while I was still transitioning. I BC'd in April so now that i'm fully natural I can set some hair health goals!!!

    1. No direct heat (blow dryers/ flat irons)

    2. No color

    3. Protective styling at least 80% of the month

    4. *Growth goal* (I don't really like to set a growth goal since I really don't have much control on how fast the hair grows out of my head) This is a hard one since I really can't think that far ahead in the future so i'll set one for the end of this year. I'd like the front of my hair to reach at least chin length stretched. After that i'll adjust my goals accordingly.

I am not sure of the year + committment, but I am three months into the transition and want to maintain healthy hair while I grow my kinks and coils out.

My only goal is to have healthy hair the best and most natural way I can.

I am in search of an excellent DC, my hair dislikes protien so all the fun egg and mayo treatments don't help me :(

And i am always looking for new protective styles.

Glad to be growing with you ladies!!!
4a- maybe, definitely tight coils underneath the relaxed hair
    Last relaxer: June 2010 :toothy7:
Long-term transition planned with BC in late May or early June

Co Wash- Suave coconut or Giovanni 50/50
Poo- (maybe once a week) Giovanni SAS or 50/50
    DC- Still looking
Oils- vatika, EVCO, EVOO, Jojoba, Castor, NEEM (If you don't know, please check it out, it's a miracle oil), Vitamin E...

October will be my 5th month with no relaxer. I have braids in right now.

My goals are: To look past the negativity (by my family of all people:sad9::-()

To use only CG or Natural products and moisturize like crazy(my hair is extremely dry)

Wear a protective style at least 80% of the way. So far only cornrows but, they have been super tight and i loss some edges since doing so:angryfire:.....so i now am gonna try some twist styles instead.

To take care of my hair. Including my edges. That means to tell whomever is styling it TO DO THE SAME!(no more extra tight braids...or anything for that matter)

To buy a new camera so i can post pix of my progress:D. I have some nice clumps of coils:happy10: and stuff:confused1:

Not to be too worried about hair type.....although once I'm about 8mths in i probably will be like all the others crying WHATS MY HAIR TYPE....:laughing8::laughing6::laughing8:

Anyway it's 3:00 in the morning(cant sleep..and a bit of a night hawk) and i got a lot of HW to get caught up on...so chau(Spanish class)

    Welcome to the challenge ladies!!:blob6:

I will be 20 weeks on Wednesday. Everything is going smooth still yet i'm noticing some changes with my hair....its getting dryer faster:sad7:...my newgrowth is SO thick at the top....

I asked my sister (who is natural) if she could guess my hair type and she said i might be mostly 3c bc when she was transitioning...she said...her patterns looked NOTHING like mine.

So maybe i will have my coveted 3c curls after all!!!:laughing6:

Hello all:). I'm new to the whole blogging concept but I figured since I would be transitioning I might as well join up so I can provide support as well as receive it. I have been transitioning for 9 weeks now and I have to say that it has been easier than I thought it would be (knock on wood). I actually enjoy my poo/co-wash days and the idea that I'm finally taking care of my hair after the all the years of scalp burns from perms, tracks, weaves and hair grease! I plan on transitioning for at least a yr (maybe longer depending on how things go) with the ultimate goal of having as well as maintaining long, thick healthy hair.

My current regime is as follows:
daily treatment: Sweet Almond oil & water spritz in the am
Grapeseed oil massage in the evening and tie up w/a
silk scarf at night (tried evoo but it made my hair itch
    like crazy!)
weekly treatment: Alternate co-washing one week w/Suave Almond &
Shea butter conditioner & twisting w/Curls creme
    brule-target or washing (Curls cleanser-
target), condit. (Curls coconut curlada-target), hot oil
treatment & leave-in (grapeseed oil) & then twisting
    w/ curls creme brule
*After twisting I leave them in for a week until I'm ready to co-wash
or wash, condit, hot oil again. I am using a quick weave as my go to
transition staple and I take out the front two twists to blend
w/quick weave when going out and then re-twist once I get home.
trimming: Dust my ends every 8 weeks. I will not do the big chop
(unless I have to) until I have enough hair that I am
    comfortable with.

Although I have been loving the curls line I plan on trying out the Cantu leave in (heard great things about it & its half the price of the curls line!) for my twisting for the remainder of my transition & maybe longer if I like it.

Ultimate Hair Goal : To have healthy bra-strap unstretched hair & mid-back healthy straight hair.

Hair Type : Shouler length 3b/c curls at roots with relaxed ends (with 1inch & a half of new growth at 2month mark). Its funny that I always wished I had hair like my brother (silky ,curly, easy to manage) & this entire time thats what I had! Funny how things work out huh?...well I look forward to transitioning with you all and being a support system for each other:thumright:
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Hair Type: A head full of THICK, normal porosity curls/coils that I am TOTALLY in LUV with!
    (Transitioned for 16 & 1/2 months)

Loving:love10:: MC LI Condish, Raw shea butter, Coconut & Grapeseed Oil, SM raw shea butter shampoo,HEHH Conditioner, Braggs ACV & Egg, Mayo & EVOO PT's

Hello- Count me in- I have been transitioning since Aug 15th. I am so excited and am learning so much. In fact, I'm in product over load. I've research so many products, I am confused. I wash weekly with shea moisture ($9.00 Target) and deep condition weekly with the same product. I also purchased the Shea Moisture leave in conditioner because my hair is sooooo dry..... I am also thinking of purchasing a steam dryer because I've heard excellent things about them. I'm so excited to be doing this with a team of people. I really need support because I have one foot in the house and the other in the salon to get a relaxer. Always- I hope everyone has a great transition.

I`m not transitioning anymore, but I just did my BC last month . . so I`d like to see how much length I can get between now and next December. My goal would be mid back length, like my hair used to be before my BC; it`s at my chin now . . so wish me luck.

    I`m in.

I'm with you! I actually plan to transition for 4 years! I've always worn long weave & I can't see myself going from that to a short 'do. Since I'm so used to weaving it up, it's not going to be anything to continue for another few years. Right now I'm transitioning with braid extensions.

I see myself transitioning with kinky twists/braid extensions the entire 4 years. My hair has grown like crazy braided up, & I want that to continue! ;)

I've been transitioning for 41 weeks and 6 days!!:toothy10: I've fallen in love with my napturalness & I feel this is the absolute best decision I've made in a while. My hair has grown SO MUCH since that first week of transitioning. Braiding my hair makes it so easy to keep it moisturized daily, which I think has also contributed to the growth.

    I want to join.

I've BC'd in June 2010 so I've been natural for a little over 3 months now. I have some days where I want to relax it just because Im used to wearing real funky short hair cuts but whenever I look at my girls they give me inspiration and motivation to remain natural. Not to mention how fast my hair is going and all the compliments I get (everyone swears I have some sort of texturizer in my hair).

Right now I probably have about 3" of hair.

    Goals:
    1. Remain natural
    2. Limited heat
    3. No cutting
    4. Only Natural Products
    5. Shoulder length hair
    6. Grow hair long enough to put in a ponytail

I've nailed my routine but I think its gonna change since winter is coming (cant walk outside with a wet head). I may get a sew-in or braids from Dec - March.

    Routine:
CoWash Daily w/ Suave Natural Conditioner (coconut) or Suave Professional Conditioner (Almond and Shea Butter).

    Style w/ [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink]

Shampoo 1x weekly with [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/DevaCurl-LowPoo-p-54.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=devacurl-lowpoo]DevaCurl Low-Poo[/buylink] or Elucence Moisture Benefit Shampoo (think I may change my shampoo to [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Come-Clean-Moisturizing-Shampoo-p-844.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Kinky-Curly-Come-Clean-Moisturizing-Shampoo]KC Come Clean[/buylink]).

Im still looking for a deep treatment may just use warm Olive, Jojoba or Placenta Oil weekly.

I always get excited when joining a challenge.

Well this may be strange, but I've been transitioning for 5 months now. I have had no braids, sew-ins, etc. The only protective style I've done is a bun with the exception of getting perm rods one time (which my husband HATED). I use Nioxin products to help with the thinning look of my relaxed hair along with a daily moisturizer of coconut oil or Jane Carters Nourish and Shine. I may be one of the few who plan on wearing my natural hair straight or in waves (from twistouts). I didn't start transitioning on purpose. I am a busy mommy and wife and prefer to spend my time with my family instead of getting my hair fried with chemicals. My goal was never to embrace my curls but I absolutely love my buckshots, as my husband calls them (yeah he's a lil rude sometimes). Anyway, I have NO support from my husband to try any style other than straight hair but I have no interest in ever getting a relaxer again. This is where I stand with my journey. Regardless of the negativity I've gotten from other curlies, I love where I am right now and I know I can do this and come out with healthier hair than I have right now. Will anyone in this thread support me if I don't go "curly"?

Definitely count me in on this one :-} I've been transitioning for about 7 months (since April 2010) and my transition has been a great experience for me so far. I'm loving my new growth:love5: and getting to know my natural hair as it grows. I could go to Dec 2011 which will be 20 months for me. I plan to stick to it unless i get excited and BC sooner lol....but i'm looking to transition at least a year or more ....

My current regimen: Protective styles Sew in
    Co-wash:TreSeme Curl Moisture
    Conditioner:Organix Coconut Milk
    Leave-in:Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine
    Deep Conditioner:Herbal Essence Hello Hydration
    Moisturizer:Shea Butter & EVOO

Hey I am game! I am scared to see myself with short hair. I am definitely taking this as far as possible to retain some hair length. My last relaxer was May 6th and I am realizing a nice curl pattern in my new growth. I may BC by the ending of next year. Right now I cowash and do acv rinses and baking soda clarifiers. I also experiment with different transitioning styles. I air dry and do not use heat or even attempt to comb my hair when it is dry.

    We'll see.

    Nice Thread!

    I'm in!!!

My last relaxer was 2nd April 2010. I started at MBL, the longest I've ever had, so I don't want to BC either atm. I planned to Final Chop at 2nd October 2011, so I'm 18 months into transitioning (and maybe earlier if I really can't stand the relaxed ends anymore). I guess my NG will be at least APL stretched by then, so that will be my goal until 31th December 2011!

Just put my hair in a protective style for the week because this weather is crazy and I`m not sure when it`ll be warm enough for a wash and go. I`m not interested in getting a head cold either, so yeah . . protective style it is.

My hair actually looks 'happy' in this style. LOL . If that makes any sense. Also, today marks 2 months since my BC . . :occasion7:

I'm definitely in!! I couldn't leave my transitioning partner out in the cold. Yay us!!!! I can't wait. I am currently past shoulder length I wonder how I will be in Dec. 2011. I am excited. I currently co-wash every couple of days. I then do a deep conditioner every other week. I use Garnier as a leave in, then put some daily moisturizer on it and put it in a ponytail. lol but hey it works!!!
