Will highlights show through semipermanent color?

I'm thinking about getting highlights to enhance my waves, but I'm afraid bleaching my hair will turn it yellow and blotched because of earlier dyes. So after the highlights I thought I'd use a semipermanent colour to even out and give a little shine. Would this be a good idea, or will it cover the highlights up?

As long as you use something gentle (no peroxide or ammonia) like Color by Robert Craig or something, it should be fine. That's what I do when I highlight-- I lift the color a few shades then tone it. Be sure to choose a color lighter than the highlights though or it will darken them. :) HTH
