Curd conditioner making my hair smell. Help!

skatsskats Registered Users Posts: 7
I recently started following the no-poo CG method and I've been using only home-made natural products on my hair. The only problem is, the curd and honey conditioner that I use makes my hair smell afterward! Kinda like spoilt milk. What should I do? I've used the ACV rinse and lemon juice rinse but the smell remains. Help!

I stopped using food in my hair for just that reason. There is a protein treatment by Cherryloa that has Greek yogurt and Bragg's Amino Acids. I liked what it did for my hair, but couldn't stand smelling like spoiled milk and teriyaki marinade all day! You could try adding a little EO to your mix. Don't know if that will help.

There are so many great PTs available for purchase, that won't leave your hair smelling like sour milk. Since bf is finding it offensive (and I don't blame him), why not try something else?

I'm from Bangalore, India, I don't think there are any great products for curly hair available here.

There are some great products that are made in India. I used to be able to buy them in the local Indian grocery store before it closed. I think that Himalaya (something like that) makes a good protein conditioner that might be available to you. The first soap bar I ever used was a Shakikai bar by Swastick (??) I think you may be able to buy some great Auyvedic products, too. If you search, you'll find a lot of threads about how people here use them.

Yeah we do get Himalaya products here. But as of now I'm wary of anything commercial. And you mean 'Shikakai'..its available here in its natural form also, and I'm gonna be using it in place of shampoo. Let's see how that works.
I think I figured out why the smell remained, I wasn't rinsing out properly. Apparently while cleansing you have to massage your scalp for a few minutes. This site was really helpful- www.livecurlylivefree.com

I tried using a Shikakai infusion for cleansing. Didn't find it to be "enough." If you seach for the Himalaya products, I think you'll find some good comments. While I'm not a proponent of drugstore products, I have tons of other choices available to me. If you read the labels carefully, you may find some acceptable products to use.

There is a Lush store at Garuda Mall. Some of their products are CG however it is rather expensive.
Health and Glow stores sell the Himalayan Herbals products that KathyMack was talking about. I remember seeing Garnier products at that store as well but I'm not sure the formulation is the same as in the US.
Sort of CG sometimes, but not really
