What to do with this Aloe Gel?

NayaNaya Posts: 922Registered Users
Hey peeps,

My boyfriend recently had a wicked awful case of sunburn.. so we bought a TON of all natural aloe gel from Whole Foods.

I KNOW I can use the left over stuff in my hair with good results.. it's supposed to have moisturizing properties.. right? I can't find anything online that's really helpful. Lots of stuff about hair growth and alleviating dandruff.. but what about just moisturizing my hair?

Anyways.. my questions are:
  1. Can anyone provide me with information or a link to the benefits of aloe gel as a moisturizer?
  2. How can I use it on my hair? (mix it with something, apply it directly, etc)?
  3. What can it be used for? (I.E. Styling, conditioning, etc)

Thanks a lot!!! I appreciate the knowledge in advance!!

my hair hates aloe vera gel as a leave-in unless it is mixed with shea butter. you can add some to your conditioner for cowashing. if you wear buns or twists, you can use it that way also.
LOIS (OS); cottony, TYPE 4 hair, fine/med strands; no cones bcz my hair hates them; last relaxer '98; now low porosity:?, ignores most natural hair rules; BC #8

faves: suave, v05 shampoo, conditioner (my own), raw shea butter, castor oil, peanut oil, aloe juice

When I had AVG to use, I would smooth it over my twists after twisting. I would get the best twist out definition and really soft hair when I did this.

I have used AVG alone, and mixed with any of my other styling gels. I usually use FOTE when I use it alone, but I must use a good leave in, or I feel kinda dry. When I mix AVG, I use a organic brand that I get in the Health food stores, and it is fine. It is more liquid, and mixes easier. I also use a dab rubbed between wet palms to refresh second and third day hair. At the BSS near my office, you can get a huge FOTE in a pump bottle for about 6 bucks. Love the pump! Cuts time off the styling if you don't have to pick up and squeeze a bottle! HTH...

you can use it as a styler or create shealoe using shea butter, coconut oil, aloe vera gel, and some oils. You can search for the recipe here or via yahoo/google.

It always leaves my hair super soft and is one of the product I look for in my staple stylers.

It's a moisturizer that can be used on your hair or skin. You can add essential oils to fragrance it. Some essentials oils (rosemary, peppermint, ylang ylang) are said to have growth enhancing properties.

I've used it to lay down my edges. I tried it for a wash and go, but I didn't like the results. Ift felt very dry.
