Two different textures of hair: HELP!!!

I have been natural for fours years but have never in my life worn it in its natural state (you know, no blow drying, flat ironing blah, blah) unless it was in a pony tail. I want to wear it out, but the front is a complete different texture from the back. The back is more tightly coiled (like 4a-ish) and the back is more wavy-curly (like somewhere in the 3's I think). So when I try to wear it out the back is a fro and front is wavy-curly and it looks plain weird. So what I want to do is get it trimmed in the front so everything is the same length.
What I want to know is:
1.) Is trimming the front the solution?
2.) If not, what should I do?
Thanks people!! :happy9:

I have the same issue. Something I read in the CurlyGirl book helped me. If I want to wear my hair out in an afro (I usually wear a puff), I put a little gel on a clip and use it to prop up the hair in the front while it's still wet. I don't take the clips out until it dries.
