Can your hair get curlier as you get older?

I started out with 3a and then it went to 3b and I can see it slowly getting curlier and curlier

I'm freaking out because it seems really difficult to handle any type of 3c or 4 hair. I just got my technique perfectly down

It looks like its working against gravity and slowly moving upwards

does this happen to anyone else?

Yes. My hair was super curly when I was like 1 and 2, then got straight when I was a little girl (I have pics of me at age 6 and 7 where you'd think I had Japanese hair). Got more curl again starting at puberty. Got curlier as the years went on. Sometimes got less curly. Got supercurly in my forties. I'm the curliest I've ever been, if you don't count age 2 when I was just a lil poodle. :D (I only have one pic, as the fricken communists wouldn't let my parents take pics, and all we have are the couple my mom smuggled out in her my diaper.)

I had fine, straight hair when young and it slowly started to thicken before puberty. By the time I hit high school I had a ton of hair. By college I noticed I had a very slight wave to my hair. Now I'm a couple years post college and my hair still only has a slight wave but I can encourage it to be wavy!

Yeah it does, when I was little I had really pretty 3 A hair, and then when I got older around 3rd grade - 7th grade it was like barely wavy at all, probably 2 A hair, and now that I'm older it has gotten curlier again, and now it's 2 C.

I had unruly fine fine waves waves WAVES all my early life. Easy enough though to blow it dry straight. After having a baby in my early 30's I could no longer straighten it without burning the h%%% out of it, as it seemed to have gotten much curlier. So I gave up straightening. After doing CG my hair sure showed its curly nature that I love now. :)

My friends' daughter was in the 2's as a child and now in her thirties has 3b hair.

In both our cases, no one the our respective families knows where we got our curls from!

So yes, hair can change (apparently every 7 or so years).

I had very fine hair with delicate ringlets when I was a baby. As I grew older, my hair became more wavy, less curly. I attribute this to the absolute length and weight of my hair (mid thigh length) and the way that I was - or should I say wasn't- taking care of it. At that point I had no idea what was good or bad for hair.

In high school I kept my hair very very short (about one inch in length) and that length seemed to facilitate curls. I let my hair grow out a bit to my shoulders and by the time I got into college, I had discovered the CG system. Now that I'm in my early twenties I have a very strong 3A/3B pattern. The 3B portion is relatively new to what my hair used to do.. I think I've somehow encouraged my hair to curl MORE! :D
Hairtype: 3a/b, normal elasticity, low porosity, medium thick & fine- my hair can't get enough protein!

    *****HG Routine*****
    Cleanse: Care Cure Conditioner
LI: Biolage Conditioning Balm (not very often used anymore, really)
Styling: Eco Style Protein Gel and a diffuser (pixiecurl method).

Sorry to guano, I'm just intrigued.....

btw, I had wavy hair growing up and when I hit puberty the frizz and curls started. Now my husband can't believe it when he looks at my hair, he never knew he married a CG because I straightened for so long! He jokes and says I never would have married you if I knew you have curly hair!

    Yes it can.
My hair had a slight wave until I was 12yo. Hormones kicked in and my hair went curly.
My dad's hair didn't curl until he was in his early 20s... then he had a blond afro. He has 3c+ hair.

I started out baby fine straight hair for years, I hit puberty and it got thicker and there was a wave to it. Now I'm starting to form 3a curls, and I am growing in 3c spirals as my new growth, but I will probably be a mix and not transition to one or the other. Btw I'm about to turn 20, so I have a lot of hair changing to go hopefully. One day I may have a head of little springs, and I look forward to it lol.

Yep, it can change! My hair was was more wavy/curly as an infant and young child, then after puberty my hair changed to mostly 3c. It's basically been like that up to now.

It's really not that challenging at all to handle 3c hair. Just be sure to moisturize well (whatever amount suits your hair the best) and detangle regularly. Braiding/twisting helps.
