Define my curls without gel

I'm assuming I'm a 4a, but I may be a 3c. Who knows. Well, I have been spending so much money on products to moisturize and define my curls. I was so close to getting a relaxer again. So I did something a little different yesterday. I shampoo'd with VO5, DC with cholesterol, and use some generic Paul Mitchell daily leave-in moisturizer that I bought from Dollar Tree. My hair is soaking wet when I do this. It says put a dime-size amount on my hair, but I noticed when I do that my hair is dry afterwards. I decided to put on a lot, enough to coat my hair. I saw my curls pop, but I thought my hair always does that and when it dries, it goes back to a fro. Well, this morning, my hair was moisturized and my curls were still there. This morning, all I did was drench my hair in water after I showered and that was it. I went out in the sun and my curls are still moisturized. I'm going to try the CG method as well.

Yea, this is what I've been experiencing since Saturday. My curls have always been defined but frizzy. I always thought I needed a gel to keep frizz and volume down. I don't know if it's the hormones from having a baby, the protein treatment I did beforehand, the new leave in I'm using, or the steamy deep conditioning treatment but I haven't needed a gel all week. I also didn't put a lot of leave in in my hair - just enough to keep my hair soft. I've been spritzing with water in the morning, and I'm out the door.

I think that I may want to use something other than just water though. I'm really liking my hair this week, as it's not hard at all (normally I have a little crunch), it's bouncy, and sooooo soft!

My hair is like this as well! I have defined coils/curls but they are frizzy. :( I don't really like using gel often. What do you use? I have 4a hair.

I think it's the fact that your hair is moisterized. :)

I'm not sure what my Hair type is, probably 3c or 4a. I don't have a definite curl pattern. I have been natural for 3 years and still no curl pattern. I have tried numerous products, trying to find what works for me and no luck. The only time I see curls is when my hair is soaking wet and I detangle with a detangling bruch or comb. When Hair dries it becomes frizzy and without curls. I'm about to give up on natural. Are there any suggestions?

I think I have 3C/4A hair textures. I use gel a lot usually because nothing else seem to work as well to define my curls. However I have been told that you can replace gel with something of similar consistency to define curls. Something that worked for me in particular with me is Taliah Waajid Curly Curl Cream - it's thick and creamy consistency eliminate frizz and defines curl on my hair as well as keeping it quite well moisturised.... Actually it made me reduce the amount of gel I use in general

Is your hair moisturized enough? I'd worry about moisturizing & the strength of my hair before the curl definition. Once everything is on par there, you can try different things. I'm getting pretty good definition in my hair by using conditioner & oil. I apply some condish in the shower to my soaking wet hair, put some oil over it, scrunch while my head is upside down, then shake my hair vigorously & that's it. I've also combined gel w/oil or gel w/condish in a container & apply in sections. (I've even used some crisco in my gel. Works great for me in winter months when the air is dryer.)

    What's wrong with gels?
Hair Type: I was thinking thick, fine 3A, but honestly I have no clue! I do know I have a super flat top, and frizz on the sides.

Many years ago I grew my 2c hair out with no perms or color. I used BioSilk or Sauve ColorCare and Main and Tail as a leave in and finger combed, scrunched, and air dried. My hair was very coarse so much so that when I started to color it, it improved the texture. I just want soft hair at this point. I refuse to put products in my hair that make it tangle more, or feel rougher just for the sake of defining a curl. I just picked what was important to me. When I hop into bed with my SO, the lights are off and my hair is soft! I am using Aphogee Keratin 2 min Reconstructor weekly, putting Vitika Coconut oil in my hair afew hours before I wash, CO washing with Trader Joe's Nourish Spa Conditioner, Deep conditioning and conditioning with Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose. If I'm fluffy, I add a little Aphogee Moisturizing Oil Sheen and let it soak in for 45 mins so my hair looks smooth and shiny not oily. My hair is softer and more touchable than its ever been. Oh, and I highly recommend Lakshmi's Cupboard as a place to get most of what I am using if you want to try it, cheap and fast. She doesn't sell tons of brands but I think she has actually used the things she sells and believes in them. If I wanted to define, I'd just use some Main and Tail, fingers or a pick, no brush, scrunch, and air dry, but I have a different type of hair.
    Pre-shampoo- Vatika Coconut Hair Oil
Deep Conditioner- Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose
    Conditioner AOHR
Frizz Control- Aphogee Moisturizing Oil Sheen
Protein Treatment- Aphogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor
    Hair type 2c
Goal long, bright red, soft hair!

Have you ever tried to detangle using just your fingers? If your hair is not fine already, using any kind of brush may be separating your hair into too many separate strands. And I agree that moisture is extremely important.

Teri uses conditioner to define her curls:
    The Rules

I personally don't worry about definition, so I have never tried her method. Just thought I share - maybe some of that information might be relevant/helpful.

    Hi!

I usually don't like gels either but I tried one that worked well for me (I'm a 4a too).

It's from a new company called "Curls Of The World". The product is called 'Just The Flax". I apply it to my freshly washed hair in sections. It's made from flax seed and essential oils. My hair loves it.

    Here's the site, http://curlsofthworld.com

Ummmm... Aren't you the owner of this site? Didn't another thread just got locked for these shenanigans?
