hair coloring principals question / ultra-lift hair color

I have heard that color will not lift color, but what happens when you put a lighter color on hair that has been previously colored?

Also, I'm curious about the new ultra-lift hair color formulas, designed for dark hair. Any body tried these? Will these lift hair color at all? Are the ultra-lift hair colors more damaging?

'new ultra-lift hair color formulas' is just a colour with added lightener but i find they dont as well as lightening 1st then putting a toner/ colour on top. dark hair needs to be lifted 1st so that you get the exact desired colour. If using just colour I find the colour only gets lifted to an orangey colour.
What colour hair do you have now? what colour would you like to be? what colour is your natural colour?

You may get the desired results by colouring over your already coloured hair but waht happens when you get regrowth? putting the same colour will not get the same results on regrowth because it has not been coloured twice. It may be worth prelightening the whole thing with peroxide then putting your desired colour. But i would recommend going to hairdresser not worth having another hair disaster.

check out my new colour its been bleach/ coloured/ highlights my original hair colour is black

thanks Shimmy. Your hair looks great.

I THINK my hair is medium brown. It's been so long since I've seen the nautral color, I'm not sure. I'm also beginning to gray.

I'm thinking I might like to go to light brown, which if I think my hair was natural, I'd have no problem doing. However, my hair has been dyed with medium brown. I was just wondering if there was any way to lighten it up without having to strip the color first.

I need professional help. I just can't figure out what color I want to be. If only I could afford Nick Arrojo. He just seems to have an eye for knowing what color looks really good on a person.

I used the haircolour: L'Oreal Preference Ultra Lightening Hair Color UL61 Ultra Light Ash Brown ($11) when I had coloured hair(with the colour below) and black regrowths and it got my hair to a nice brown all over. You are starting at a med brown so that should get it up to light brown. It lightens up to 3 shades and is specially made for dark hair.

Prior to the Preference I had Loreal Feria golden brown (specific lightening for dark hair.
They should both get your hair to light brown but i prefered Preference because I think it gets hair just a little lighter.

Just check if it can be used on grey hair but that shouldnt be an issue until your hair is more than 30% grey, because I have a few greys and they looked fine.
    Good Luck
