How long does FSG generally last w/o perservative

I am about to do:

1/4 cup seeds
2 cups of distilled water..

Very nervous! LOL

Should I wait till I get a perservative? Or will it be ok, for a week? I have a A LOT LOT LOT LOT of hair... and I'm generally heavy handed with product! My hair can take it!

Just keep it in the fridge and it will be fine for about 2 weeks.

    Thanks Ceri,

I tossed my first batch, 2nd came out a little better! Trying it on my hair... the jury is still out on it ! LOLLLL

I actually really like the light hold.. but may use more next time. I know I claimed to be heavy handed above... but I got nervous and didn't do my usual.

Granted I haven't gone outside. I noticed some people add Magnesium sulphate for curl enhancement... See my Avatar..I don't think I need curl enhancement? What do you add to yours?

I add Sweet Orange EO for scent and humidity. I also use a little Rosemary.

I add honey for moisture and clumping.

I also add a little tiny bit (and I mean half a 1/4 teaspoon) of guar gum to thicken it. I dissolve the guar gum in a little Vitamin E so that it incorporates better.

I mix it all together with my handy-dandy hand mixer.

I use a ton of FSG. At first I used it sparingly and didn't feel like it held me well. Then I got poor and had to use FSG whether I liked it or not. I pile it on and I love the way it makes my hair so curly so naturally. I should try some MS, but I did in the beginning and I didn't like it. Now that I have more control over the FSG I should try again. Add a little extra to my curls!

Thank you! It took me 29 years to find this site, and the last two years have been the best yet! Finally have a head of hair that I can photograph! I used to just take a picture of my face :cyclopsani: ... now I can do myself a favor and add some hair to make it look nice!

You should definitely experiment. Since I use so much at a time, I can usually experiment with little to no trouble.

Hmm, I found some older fsg gel in my fridge earlier today. It has to have been in there for about 2 months. It looks and smells fine!!

The only things that I put in it were:

    Avocado oil with vitamin e
    lavender oil
    epsom salt
    honey
    xanthum gum

Anyone know why it stayed good for so long?? Im baffled!

Maybe because of the honey and the salt. Maybe because it was sealed. Was it fresh ?
