Should I cut it? What do I do?

My goal is to hit BSL length. However, the last person who cut my hair (almost 6 months ago) didn't know much about cutting curly hair, and she didn't cut off all the damaged ends because "the layers would be too short."

Actually, the layers on one side are now too LONG because the canopy of my head is nearly straight on one side (tried protein, no help), 2C on the other, while underneath it is 3a/b.

I don't want to get rid of my length, I'd just like to get my layers shaped up and trim off the damage.

I'm going to be seeing a Deva-trained stylist sometime soon. How do I go about asking for this? Should I even do it or just let it keep growing?

Help!

a good stylist should be able be able to see the problem (my hair is similar to yours with tighter curls underneath) and adjust the length of your layers on the top section only.

I would recommend keeping some layers in your hair, and once shorter in length the canopy may curl up a bit more

Good luck with the hair cut

I definitely think you need a trim. Maybe even a cut. And layers. A deva girl should know exactly what needs to be done and confident with what layers you need. Say exactly what you typed up here "I don't want to get rid of my length, I'd just like to get my layers shaped up and trim off the damage."
    That's perfect.
