Got my Devasun dryer

So my dh got me the deva hair dryer with crazy defuser for my b-day :)

It dried my hair WAY faster than my old cheap ionic dryer.

I need a video how-to on the defuser though. I ended up using my Sedusa with the dryer because I was completely confused about what to do with The Claw.

Looking forward to experimenting with it :)

I know, I have it - no instructions. I just hold it in one spot at a time & try not to move it too much. I have a lot of hair. Someone posted that Anna from Devachan said with my hair type, probably better not to move it too much.

An instruction book would be helpful! I'm doing ok with it but still switching back and forth using my bowl diffuser on the dryer. It does dryer faster and my hair seems shinier with it.

Anyone know if you can use the hot/high setting with the diffuser?

I also have the finger diffuser come off occasionally using hot/low - anyone else having that happen?

I do the same with switching to the bowl diffuser. I use it on high heat / low setting

I guess I just don't know what to do with the claw thing. Do I stick it under the top layer of my hair so that the 360 air flow is utilized or do I just scrunch up my hair to my head with it?

wish they had an email i could ask about it....

Needsleep, I think you just have to experiment. See, I do not want any more volume, so I basically hold it on top of the top layer & do not scrunch at all- if that makes any sense. Then I hold it underneath to get that part of my hair. You could try to put it under the top layer. I really like it so far. I am still trying different things, but for the most part, holding it still on top of the different parts of my hair (each side & different parts of the back of my hair) has worked best.

I think you are supposed to push the claw up under your hair, like you were "fluffing" it from beneath as illustrated in the CG book (or like if you put your hand under your hair and push your fingers up into it), then hold it still for a while. Then it would act like clipping in the sense that it is lifting your hair at the roots, and presumably dry your hair faster because of the "360" drying and the fact that the hair was lifted and easier to aerate. Then I would think you just move slowly around your head, repositioning the "claw" and drying in sections.

Does this seem to work in practice or am I off base here? I want the darn thing because I think this would help speed my drying time and boost my curl and volume by helping free the bottom layers from being weighed down by the canopy.

Maybe it would be better if you said it didn't work well this way--then I wouldn't be tempted to spend $185 on a dryer...

Gave up on plopping due to tangles/"stickiness" and now I just comb through products and diffuse. It looks basically as good and dries a lot faster (I wasn't getting good clumps from plopping anyway). Still wish I were a lot curlier!

Is it worth the $185. That seems steep for a blow dryer. But I admit I am tempted. My dryer has long outlived itself. I'm sure it is going to go any day now.

I can say that it is worth it & I have very difficult hair to style. It does speed up drying & does not frizz as a normal dryer / diffuser would. $185 is kind of steep; however, if you use it all the time, it is worth it. Think of it this way, if you had your hair blown out once a week (as many women do), it would be much more $$$$$

are there online instructions because I don't understand why it would be $185 and come with NO SUGGESTIONS or instructions as to how to use each of the different parts. Even the cheap $20 blowdryer from Sally's comes with some instructions on how to use and care for it.

Does anyone believe it is worth $185? What was the pre-sell price again?

Honestly, I think it is only worth it if it produces the results you want - so far for me, it has. I have a $30 blowdryer that has been sitting on my shelf for a long time because I had to airdry to avoid frizz. I do agree that it is ridiculous that there are no instructions; even a professional stylist most likely has never worked with this type of dryer. I have experimented on my own & have found that the key for my type of hair (lots of 3b, some 3a & thick) is that you need to hold it steady in one spot at a time & not move it around too much - also on low speed, high heat has worked for me. I would not even know who to call to complain about the lack of instructions.

There's a special offer they sent me and I'm so tempted to get it. It's $185 free shipping and you get a 32 oz bottle of devacurl condish. Sounds like a good deal. But $185 seems like alot. Is it at least a salon grade blow dryer. Like heavy duty??? I have 3b hair/thick. Does it work well on that??? Less frizz??? I need to be pushed over the cliff to buy this thing.

I still like it - I even use my bowl diffuser on it & get better results than my cheaper dryer. Have not had an issue w/ frizz. Also, I do not dry all the way, I used it get it at least so my hair does not look wet for work. Is it worth it? Well if you use it & like, yes. It's like anything else. And think of it as paying only $150 since you are getting the conditioner free :D

Ok. I bit the bullet and bought it. For no shipping and free 32 oz bottle of devacurl condish I think it is a easier pill to swallow. I'll consider it my holiday gift to myself

I have read here that it's a professional salon type dryer. It should last you for years. Hope you like it!

See, we tend to forget to buy for ourselves at this time of year :D I can tell you, I am a 3B with a lot of hair & I like it. I just have found that not moving the dryer too much gives me best results. Also, I use my bowl diffuser to get the bottom of my hair better. I think you will love it - I have three friends who just got it & they all love it!!!

Cool. I'm excited now. My husband almost had a heart attack when I told him the price. But I had a good paycheck (I get commission) this month so I figured I should treat myself for all the hard work

Ok I used the dryer yesterday and hubby said, "wow your hair looks good. The curls look almost like dreds"

That's a big compliment. Usually I could dye my hair bright pink and he would not notice. I don't think my hair looked like dreds but it was much curlier and less frizz. So far I like it but still getting used to it.

On another thread, Ladydncing said that they told her at Devachan that the dryer was not going to be that useful for her hair type. She has a tighter curl pattern but I believe she is more like 3c if memory serves correctly? I don't believe I have read any comments on it from 4's yet, but I could be forgetting something.

I myself have wavy hair and don't own the dryer (YET) so secondhand information is all I have to contribute at this time. :)

Merri I have the instructions that came with the dryer if you want to PM me your e-mail but they are pretty brief.

I have 3a/b hair and it worked pretty well for me. I would agree it may be difficult to use on super curly hair as the fingers would get stuck. My hair is not tight curls. (see pics)

Yes but there is a number stamped on the warranty info. I am figuring it is specific to my dryer. Perhaps you can call Devachan to get a warranty. I can send you what it says, but they probably won't accept the form from you because I already sent it in with the nubmer on it.

I went on to the devachan web site and didn't see the offer that included the free conditioner, do you have to be signed up with them, it offered free shipping. How did you get that.
I'm mostly a 3b with a thick head of hair , how is it working for others with thick hair. Does it decrease frizz.
I wanted to add that I looked at CurlEEE's pics and Curls of NY and I think I'm a mix of you guys, tighter curls but a thick head and some looser spots.. Seeing as tomorrow is the 24th , how do you get signed up to get email????

I got 2 emails with the offer of the free 32 oz. conditioner. One expiration was Dec. 11th and the other was Dec. 18th, so I think we missed the boat. It's too bad because I was ready to take the plunge today. I even called the phone number, and they are closed on weekends.

Oh well, maybe they'll do another offer, if so, I'll definitely do it.
