Overnight Care & Dryness?

My hair can dry up and my curls will be flat as a pancake overnight.

What overnight maintenance do you do for your hair?

I've tried and been told the following:
  • Pre-poo treatment: Sleep with a conditioner in the hair with a shower cap on, wake up the next day to wash it out.
Pro: Excellent way to start out the day.

Con: Mushy sleeping
  • With only damp hair (nothing in it), sleep with a shower cap on to retain the moisture the next day.
Pro: Hair still moist

Con: No curl definition and not that comfortable of a sleep.
  • Sleep with a satin bonnet or sleep on a silk pillowcase
Any other options for a short curly TWA?

I use coconut oil (Nutiva brand is what I prefer) on my ends heavily and lightly distribute through my hair also. Then I sleep in it. Washes out well for me with water only, or conditioner washing. Has really helped keep my ends from feeling like dried leaves.

What do you do if you don't want to low-poo your hair more than once a week? Should I just spray with mixture of AVG + water, in the morning, to keep my hair hydrated?
    Curl Type: 2b/2c
    Porosity: Normal
Elasticity: Normal (I get breakage when I pre-poo and then when I shampoo it all out and then some more over the course of the next 24 hours.)
    Texture: Medium

    Thank you so much :thumbleft:

Is coconut oil good for a daily leave-in too?

I have never tried it that way. But some nights when I apply it lightly to my hair before bed my hair looks pretty good and I've wondered how well it would do for me during the day.

I sometimes put my hair up in high pigtails (it's really not quite long enough to do the high ponytail people here refer to as pineappling). I'm surprised how much it protects the curl despite its being pulled back.

If my ends feel dry at bedtime, I scrunch in some AVG, DevaCurl B'LeaveIn, jojoba oil, or Giovanni Direct Leave In.

My hair seems to really love jojoba oil. I put it in my hair before bedtime. When I go to bed, my hair is oily. When I wake up my hair is soft, frizz-free. Co-wash, gel, and have good hair all day. And can't keep my hands out of it - it's so soft.
54, mix of 3a, 2b,c, with the occasional straight strand thrown in to keep things interesting. Low porosity. Very fine!

HG: CJCF Never lets me down.
Others I Like: DevaCurl One Co, CHSCK, Giovanni Smooth as Silk, SSDD, AnGel, DevaCurl No Poo, Elucence Moisture Balancing Condish, Curls Like Us towels.
