Big Forehead - unfortunate common ailment for Curly Girls

A few (many?) years ago I was flattered to learn that everyone thought I looked like Jessica Lange, until my little sister pointed out that "it was because I had a gigantic forehead like she did" and have been sensitive ever since.

Now that I'm trying to embrace my natural curls, my forehead seems more exagerated than ever. I just spent a great deal of time on "CurlPix" looking at both the "Celeb" photos and those of us who are "normal" and noticed that the celebs seems to rarely get "big forehead" syndrome in their photos (probably thanks to a stylist), yet even the most beautiful "normals" tend to lean towards the big/wide forehead.

I can't believe I'm the first CG to identify this "syndrome", yet it seems so prevelant. Does anyone have advice to address the dreaded Big Forehead??

Hmmmm. The only truly frightening forehead I've seen is Glenn Close's. Like a giant white porpoise head surfacing.

Truly, I think I live in far more fear of the dread Big Bangs syndrome. I for one would rather be mistaken for Jessica Lange than Reba McIntyre any day.

    I have a big forehead. :)

I just gorw my hair over it usually just to cover it up.

Hey now I have bangs. Not Reba bangs though
Boy I dread teh day my bangs grow out fully and I have to live with my forehead. I generally part my hair to one side so part of it sweeps over my forehead.

I guess though I should be worried about my ever widening backside and leave my forehead alone

My only advice is not to sweat it...I'm sure people are so enamoured with your beautiful curls they don't even notice your forehead!

(Although I must admit, I've never paid attention to my forehead so now I'm wondering if mine is big too...)

I have the exact opposite problem. When I was a teenager I wanted to get electrolysis like Rita Hayworth to enlarge my forehead. I tell ya, nobody's ever happy with what they've got!

I have bangs too and Holy Curling Iron Batman!, I curl them straight! I've tried not wearing bangs, or side-parting my hair, but I just flat look better with bangs. Having wavier hair it probably easier to get away with them being straight. I usually blow dry them with a round brush, then curl them with an iron just to help them stay set a little when I brush them out.

The best comparison is Susan Lucci, I guess, although she wears more bangs that me. Does anyone remember when she went all curly a couple years back? I thought it aged her tremendously  . I think she looks so much better with softer waves and curls.

Hmmm .. I never though I had a big forehead, but maybe I do!

I have a big forehead and my head is flat on top. I think I get that from my German grandfather, who could have been legitimately described as a blockhead! I wore bangs for years but they always got bunchy and weird, so I gave up and grew them out. I'd look better with some hair over my forehead, but it just doesn't work. Oh well.

I have a huge forehead - we jokingly refer to it as a 5-head! My *hair* looks good pushed back with a headband, but I think that my face looks horrible - all forehead! I really wish that I had a smaller forehead.

i have a teeny weeny forehead. in face i have a small head in general but my hair makes up for it. most people when examining their forehead sweep their bangs off their head and say "look how big it is!" but in reality no ones hair falls naturally backward so sharply like that. so even if theres just a little bit swept to the side it's never as obvious as you think. its the same with spots, they always look worse to the person who has them.

and hey, i remember my little sister saying to me when i was 12 (on the brink of puberty and self confidence) "jennifer, you know you'd be SO pretty if you didnt have that big nose". i have been so conscious of it ever since and unlike forheads theres is NO way to cover up a big nose.

Now see in our family we love big noses and we think little ones are weird. My brother said he loves his wife despite that tiny nose.
His nose has nostrils big enough to land a plane in. Mine isn't tiny thankfully.
His wife comes from a family of overweight women. His wife thinks it's weird and somewhat creepy if someone is in shape and a normal weight.

All that being said maybe I'll just stop freaking out over my bangs growing out and go for it, after all I have my nose to compensate :D And I'm sure not creepily fit and thin

To those of you who love your bangs, wave that fringe proudly in the breeze. To those (like me) who embrace their porpoise heads, stand tall. Just remember: none of us has a forehead as big as Christini Ricci's, & she highlights that thing.

I think very few people can pull off real bangs, & even fewer curlies -- I don't mean a few short face-framing tendrils, I'm talking full-on Xena Warrior Princess bangs. I used to let a few short corkscrews sproing over my forehead, & once I let them grow out my SO kindly said, "I really like you without the bangs, I can see your elegant forehead." Yep, he's a keeper.

I don't often have opinions on the looks of actors or actresses (basically: hot or not) but I have to admit...when I first saw Ricci, I REALLY wondered how she ever got to be on film & TV with that forehead!

I have that flat top head thing going on, like SuZen mentions, and that really bugs me. In the summer I managed to get some volume action at the roots, but now it's hopeless. I end up all sideways expansion with a flat head on top, and someone recently informed me that it looks like I'm getting "a little thin up there" too :x ! Down with tall people!

Then there's the big sniffer. If I don't wear bangs, the snout really stands out and the rest of my features are kind of small in comparison. Gosh, I sound like a real winner, huh?

Thankfully most people are too wrapped up in their OWN shortcomings to dwell on mine (I hope!).

Yay! :P I love my big forehead too! My older sister (who also has curls) also has a big forehead... we like to joke that we have "bulbous foreheads"! My forehead used to bother me but now I like it... I wouldn't be me without it!

I also have shorter curls around my face (that's just how they grow, though... I think my hair is so fine that it breaks before it gets very long in front) so those kind of swoop across my forehead and cover it a bit.

I have a big forhead too. It is one of those that is narrow and tall so I always feel like it takes up 1/3 of my face. Still working on embracing it but it doesn't help when my hair part is right down the middle and I can never find a part that makes my hair and forehead look good.
  • CelticCurlsCelticCurls Posts: 558Registered Users
Curls&Waves, remember: Christina Ricci's takes up half her head. At least. Therefore, you are stil (ahem) ahead. :) And yes, I understand if you all want to ban me from the board for that horrible pun. It was my last word on the topic, I promise.

OK, I lied. One more comment. While doing a search to post a pix of Ms. Ricci's very large (but very talented) forehead, I found this.

A list of hot actresses w/ big foreheads! It begins with the quote: "everything she eats goes straight to her forehead. And at just over 5 feet tall, her forehead must look that much bigger in person." Then it goes on to talk about her fine qualities. But check out her hair. It is designed to display her forehead to its largest possible angle. Very inspirational.

I did see one pic with her bangs. She looks better without them.

I also have a big forehead and it use to really bother me when I was younger. It seems like when I wear my hair curly my forehead doesnt look as big with all the volume. Its when its straight it sort of stands out.

Spacegirl and Brio--I'm with you on having the tiny forehead. Except I also have a face that would be as round as the moon even if my forehead were higher, and big bushy eyebrows. I always say I have a low, sloping brow. It makes me look kind of like Neanderthal, and probably has a lot to do with why strangers used to always tell me to smile when I was a kid...

Gave up on plopping due to tangles/"stickiness" and now I just comb through products and diffuse. It looks basically as good and dries a lot faster (I wasn't getting good clumps from plopping anyway). Still wish I were a lot curlier!
