Crank Call or Prank Call?

I always said crank call, but now I'm starting to wonder if that's just a New England thing.

Maybe it is a NE thing. I'm from CT and most people I know (including myself) always said crank call, although I'm pretty sure its supposed to be prank.

I always wonder where things like that originated from.

It always sounds weird to me when people say crank!

Crank Call but I grew up around Boston.
Women.... Who made 'em? God must have been a... genius. Their hair. They say that the hair is everything, you know? Have you ever buried your nose in a mountain of curls, and just wanted to go to sleep forever?

I say both, I grew up in Boston. I don't think 'crank calls' is just a New England thing though - that show about phony phone calls was called Crank Yankers.
I haven't got the slightest idea how to change people, but I still keep a long list of prospective candidates just in case I should ever figure it out.

In my tiny town in central (NOT CHICAGO) Illinois, we made crank calls.

Well, I mean. Not me. No. That would've been rude.

Growing up in Minnesota we always said crank. Gotta go for for the alliteration whenever possible.
