CurliLocks, and any other color gurus - I'm ready to try RC, but I need help!

Ok, I think I'm ready to do a perm color since going CG almost 6 months ago...

I used to color my hair all the time, and usually went with a dark auburn color...I am looking for reddish tones and gray coverage (not sure how gray I'd consider myself - not more than 50% for sure, though)...

I'd say my natural color is either #3 - Chocolate Brown or #4 - Dark Brown...

here is a pic to (hopefully) help...

What would you recommend?? TIA!! :glasses7:

So you want to stay about the same color you are, with a bit of warmth to it. I would recommend starting with #7 Golden Chestnut. Your hair looks to be about the same color as mine naturally, and I use #7 to cover/blend gray. It has a gold base with can be warm. Do you have any natural red tones to your hair?

I would start with that, and if you want to add some more red later, you could add some auburn or mahogany. But if your hair is like mine, it will pull some warmth anyway.

You can look at my pics in my fotki for reference. The colors come out much darker on our curls than shown.

Hi! Did you ever color your hair yet? How did it come out? :)

Hi!! No, I haven't taken the plunge yet...for some reason, I'm a little gun-shy, and not sure why :/ I'm just realizing now how porous the color-damaged part of my hair is, and I'm hesitant to do anything more while I still have the color in my hair...would it be better to wait until I get it all cut off?

If you are planning to cut soon, you could wait until after the cut. However, whenever you do color, remember to start on the roots and virgin hair first, and only pull thru to the ends and pre-colored length for the last 5-10 minutes or so. Your strand test will help with timing for that too. :)
