Does Your Cat Yowl And Wail After You've Gone To Bed?

SpringcurlSpringcurl Posts: 8,002Registered Users
Once the lights are out in the house and after everyone's in bed, does your cat walk around giving this gutteral meow like it's saying, "Abandoned! Abandoned!"

Mine don't usually do that, because they come and sleep with us at night. One of them sometimes falls asleep upstairs in a desk chair, and when she wakes up and it's dark, she lets out little pitiful cries until I call her name, then she comes running into the bedroom and leaps into the bed. (Because, you know, it's not like we sleep in the same bed in the same room every single night!)

    LOL.

He'll usually get in bed with me after a time, too. But I hate when I'm like just drifting off to sleep and suddenly I hear, "Yow? Yow? Mrow! Mrow! Murr-er? Murr-er?"

Sometimes he will yowl at night after I've cut off the lights and gone to bed, but I think it's because he doesn't want to go to bed. These are usually nights when he's been asleep for most of the day so he's ready to party and since everything has to be run on his schedule, if he's not sleepy, no one's sleeping.:disgust:

LOL, my cat does this too sometimes!! I live in an apartment and sometimes he will be left out in the den on the couch. He will wake up like 10 minutes after all the lights are off and scream his head off until I call him. And weird thing is, I have to KEEP calling his name (Yacine! Yow? Yacine! Yooow? YACINE! Yow!!) like he's trying to find his way to me - allll the way down that loong hallway that takes like 3 seconds to walk. :sign6:

How come I've never encountered all this personality in cats? I'm open to it, but all mine do is eat, sleep, and leave me beheaded rodents.

My cat is practically a mute. She rarely makes any sounds at all. I like this about her.

Sometimes. He's not allowed in the room when we go to sleep because my husband can't sleep with him in the bed. Before we lived together, whenever he'd sleep over my place the cat would bat at his cartilege piercings and bit him on the nose while he was asleep.

It took him a while to get used to being banished from the bed (it took me a while too :( ), but most nights he's pretty quiet. He might start up for a bit but usually he lets out a few yowls or cries and then stops. The worst, though, is when he does it at, like, 4 AM.

Yep! He always cries the most when he's been fast asleep all evening long. And wakes up right before it's our bedtime. I feel really bad, but what can you do? After all, we still have to get up in the morning... to go to work so we can provide him with all his creature comforts.

Mine has maybe once or twice when we've moved to a new place.

My sister's cat does it every night.

I can completely relate to this. My cat doesn't do it very often but it normally scares the livin poop outta me if I'm just dozing off and I hear it. I always tell her spoiled ass to quit crying! LOL (because that's essentially what it is). A lot of it has to do with the fact that she's not allowed in my room at night because she will bother the living hell out of me and keep me up all night if she were allowed.

I think it depends on the cat as well. Our other cat is mute so she never makes any noise whatsoever (I only WISH my cat were like that -- but then again she wouldn't be half as amusing then LOL)... And we used to have a cat years back who would howl like that regularly.

My cat does the same exact thing. It's like she is lost or something and doesn't know her way to the bedroom.

Also, as soon as I go out, and if my husband is home, she starts screaming/crying if she can't find me. She is a real mama's girl.

She also cries right after she uses the litter box, as if to tell me to clean it....

    It's annoying, but I love her!! :love10:

My cats will if the bedroom door is shut. I just leave it open. I wake up in the morning with three cats curled around me - 1 at my head, 1 at my feet, and 1 laying across my back (I sleep on my stomach).
  • curlylauracurlylaura Posts: 8,352Registered Users
Yes he does. It's very annoying. He even does it if I've only taken the rubbish out. I'll get back and he's crying behind the door. Mummy's boy.

If I close the door on him he'll try to open it, it sounds like scratching but it's not. Sometimes he'll take a running jump at the door handle. If he's doing that I'll let him in just so I can get some sleep. But sometimes he bounces all over my bed so I don't get much sleep. This morning I woke up to find the contents of a plant pot all over my bed.

Yes, the old one does it, especially when he goes to drink water. It's like a loud yodel "I'm takin' a drink - everyone stay back!"

@SpringCurl, that youtube is very close to my cat. He has less vibrato and a more extended tone.

If I shut her out of my bedroom, she will. She'll come to the door with a toy in her mouth and meow. I sleep with earplugs so I don't know how long this goes on, but there will be a pile of cat toys outside the door when I get up in the morning.
