Braided Extensions and Caring for Natural Hair

So I transitioned with braids (extensions). When I took the braids out my hair grew so long I couldn't believe it.

Now that I am fully natural I was thinking of braiding it again. I guess a way to kind of give my hair a break and let it grow without the combing and constant styling. Not to mention I am getting tired of twisting and braiding everyday, and want stress free styling so I can focus on sleeping, eating well, and working out. I also feel like my hair grows faster when braided. (this is probably a myth but I dont know)

Can any of you ladies and gents give me advice on keeping my natural hair healthy underneath the braids? Are there particular styles I should focus on?

Thanks for your help!
4a-4b hair. Not sure yet so I'll just say both!

I did the exact same thing: transitioning for a year in braids! I think I will braid again for the summer because thats when I will be traveling a lot (and in Norcal, summer is like our winter, so I want to protect it as much as possible). I was planning on doing individual braid extensions because they last about 2 months if well taken care of. But I've also been considering goddess braids because they will take a shorter amount of time to put in...

Good luck to you on that! Yea, I think my hair would love to be left alone for a while. I guess I will use oil on my scalp daily and deep condition once in a while. I am just concerned with my hair being dry while braided. Not sure how to keep it moisturized while braided.

Bumping for more info. I plan on doing a 9 month braids challenge and am considering using extensions but I have no idea how to take care of my hair under this artificial hair. Any more ideas/advice/horror stories??

I bumped this thread for you guys, because it helped me a lot. I usually do what NCC suggested, but I don't use gel. I also spray on a moisturizer daily. Instead of aphogee I use mayo as a protein treatment before and after. HTH

That's really great! When ever i put braid (extensions) in my hair i am very pleased with the result. But when i remove them my hair sheds :angryfire: Last year it took me 6 months to grow back all of that shredded hair:crybaby::crybaby:. Do you have any suggestions on how i can grow my hair while in braids (extensions). And while i have my braid (extensions) in can i wash them? Thanks :cheese:
