My baby has pneumonia

cosmicflycosmicfly Posts: 1,814Registered Users
Poor guy- I was so happy that he hasn't been sick since his surgery in January, but he was having cold symptoms on Sunday and by Monday night, he was coughing. I took him to the pediatrician today and he has pneumonia. I don't know.... I guess I just wish he could have a cold without it turning into an ordeal for himself. The dr did say it could be a lot worse, so we were probably taking all the right steps to care for him.

His humidifier is on and my pillow is in his crib to elevate his head. He was excited about the pillow. I tried to keep him in bed with me last night and the night before, but he was super wiggly and after he got his mommy time, asked for his crib. I didn't know if I was sad or relieved- kind of hard to rest with all the wiggling and standing up going on.

I'm so sorry. I can feel his pain. I had it several times as a child and it's miserable. I hope he gets better soon.

Awww, I'm sorry!! My little brother's had it 3 or 4 times, and it clears up pretty fast with a round of antibiotics. The only problem is that after you get it once you're more likely to get it again later on....

I hope he gets better quickly and doesn't feel too miserable for too long.

Thanks guys- he's definitely feeling better even though he's still congested. He just ate a huge dinner and he's playing with the other kids.

He's definitely feeling better, thanks for asking Deedles.

His chest is still congested, but he was out enjoying the beautiful weather this afternoon (and holding his own with big brother and his friends on the skateboard. I should take a video of that). I still think he needs to take it easy, but he isn't acting sick anymore.

    glad to hear about it...

Colin has broncholitis but the good news is that it is not from RSV (he tested negative) he's on a nebulizer every 4 hours and I'm doing saline drops in his nose and the suction (which he screams). according to the pediatrician his chest is clear.

I ended up calling the doc last night because I wish they could give him something for the cough. I know this is viral and I know he can't have antibiotics but sometimes his coughing goes on and on and on and towards the end he screams cause it hurts... the doctor says I should just nurse him or give him a little pedialyte (cold) after a big fit.

I had forgotten how many times infants get sick!

PS: did I mention we are going to Mass in a bit over a week (doc says he can travel!)

See, my other 2 were never sick as babies (or really ever sick), so this is all new for me. Elevating his head (I used a pillow but Colin is little, you can elevate the mattress in his crib) and using a vaporizer in the room he sleeps in seems to really help alleviate the coughing at night). I hope Colin feels better soon. Have a great trip.

Deedles, a little vicks helps with the cough. Vicks has these cool plug ins that also make the room feel up with vapor. Good luck.

I hope both boys are perfectly healthy soon.

Oh I have him elevated.. I McGyver'd this little cushion thing that has his foam "acid reflux" mat too.

    DA, I'll try the vicks
