When my daughter was 18 months she had 90 words and by her 2nd birthday was talking in complete sentences . My son, however, had 5 words at his second birthday, but by 3 was doing well, though still talked in gibberish sometimes. He would start a sentence all garbled until he could complete his thought and then say what he meant. He'll be 4 in a few months and is now exactly where my daughter was at four.
It's hard not to compare, but each child is unique and will develop at his/her own pace.
