Deva Hint....and I bought it!

I went to Devachan for the 4th time this weekend and as usual it was amazing!! Ana was great, her assistant, Val was very sweet and did a great job styling.

When I told her what a clip spaz I was, she gave me the best tip! You have to bend the clips a bit and then they don't fall over! There's no real need to do the fancy two at a time criss cross method if you just bend the clips a little. I put a photo of two bent (different extremes) and one straight clip to show.

No pics of my cut yet, but I will. Ana gave me some face framing layers to lighten up the front.

I bought the Deva dryer and it is so far so great (I've used it once.) It doesn't hasten the drying time (although it never claimed to) but the amazing thing about it is that it doesn't fry your hair while drying. I used it on high fan, warm heat and had it right up against my neck for minutes and it never got uncomfortable or burning. I'm very happy I bought it!

One unfortunate thing is that I tried to replicate how Val put the products in my hair (one c, set it free while wet, gobs of gel upside down, scrunch out water, spray in more sif) and I got cottage cheese!!

Then I tried one c, CK,angell and got cottage cheese! Then one c, CK, [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/DevaCare-Arc-AnGell-p-567.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=devacurl-devacare-arc-angell]arc angell[/buylink]...cottage cheese! Seriously, I rinsed my hair 6 times before I figured out it must be the One C.

I know my bottle isn't bad though cuz when I leave some in with CK, Spiral Curls and Angell I haven't got any. I think I was leaving in too much maybe??
Very frustrating.

I ended up doing no One C, CK, [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/DevaCare-Arc-AnGell-p-567.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=devacurl-devacare-arc-angell]Arc Angell[/buylink] and sprayed SIF after scrunching out water and got good results without cottage cheese. Still feels soft, even withough One C so as winter goes on, time will tell.

All in all, another amazing time at the mothership!

I bend mine like that too since someone said they do that. I didn't know it was so they didn't fall over. I thought it was so the hair isn't freaky straight at the bottom.

I can't wait to see pics of your hair, you have amazing hair, I just love it!

Yup, I bend mine, and they work great. It's the only way I can get them to stay up.

When you grab a curl or section of hair close to the scalp to give it lift with one hand, slide the clip in to hold it there with the other hand. When the clips are bent, they don't fall over but stay in place to hold the curl right where you want it.

Was this at all helpful or just vague? :)

Well, it's better because it uses warm heat instead of burning hot heat so the hair doesn't get fried. Its better because the diffuser (which they don't sell separately because it would melt on any other dryer) has air flow from the front and the back and slips easily in between hair.
It's also better because I found that I got way less frizz when I was done than with other dryers (except for the T3 but which fried my hair.)

There is a learning curve I'm sure as sometimes the bottom part of my hair slips out of the "hand" unless I use the Pixicurl method of diffusing.
    I'm very happy with it.

Some assistants at Devachan used the dryer with another diffuser and when I asked why she shrugged and said 'they both work.'
They're so laid back there in that the response to "she said this but you said that" is, "everyone had their own technique." And "why are there so many products if you only need a condish and a clear gel?" the response is, "you only need one pair of pants and one shirt to be dressed too, but sometimes it's fun to have more choices."

So then to you is it worth $185.00? No offense to you since you already spent it is I just want to know if you think you got your moneys worth or would you have prefered to have spent less for it? If that makes any sense. Thanks. :D

Well, I'm not going to say that I don't think that $185 is ridiculous to spend on a blow dryer because of course it is! :) And it's irrelevant to want it for less, cuz it's not available for less. All I can say is that I'm glad I bought it and time will tell if I get consistent results.

Morningstar, I'm glad it helped. I could not use these things at all and used mini claw clips instead which a lot of times would snag in my hair. Now that I learned the bending trick, they're so easy to use! And thanks for the compliments!

Yeah, I see what you mean. You can't get it for less if it is $185.00. It is what it is. I was just hoping that maybe someday Lorraine would come down a little on the price. I can dream right?

    Cool tips and info! Thanks.

I think one reason for the price (I won't be buying one) is that it is a "professional" blow dryer as opposed to a "consumer" model. Even if you use it on your hair every single day, it won't get anywhere near the use of a dryer that a stylist might use for hours every day on various customers. If a stylist tried using a consumer model it would probably burn out within a week!

Too bad they didn't come out with 2 versions.[/i]

Haven't posted the new cut yet--I will though, I promise. :)

The JTCHI is after I got my hair done at the Jonathan Torch Curly Hair Institute. I loved that day!! Those curls were individually twirled by the stylist and lasted 4 days! Very fun!

    2happy,
Still loving the dryer--use the hand for the underneath and undersides, then switch to a bowl for the top with clips and for the bottom curls. No frizz and no damage--sooooooo great!

    medusahair,
every once in a while I try it--it takes a lot of patience and it never looks like when the salon does it but there is some uniformity. Try it on a "you" day when the most important thing you have to do is your hair! :) Lots of CK, a comb with a sharp point on the end and you're good to go!

Bumping to say Thanks! The bent clips are a really good tip and they are so secure. (This idea should be on a sticky)
Previously I went to Carlos who said the thing about *hanging clothes on a line* but that did not work for me.

For anyone who hasn't been able to get clips to work, try this!

And mrfhnl, did you ever get any photos taken? You've been my hair-hero for a while now.

(Now I will have to resist the desire to buy the Deva Ion dryer, I did not need to remind myself about it by rereading this thread  )
